Did You Know...

... that French teams finished with two extra rounds at the national indoor championship?

AAA Class awards at the French Indoor Nationals
posted Mar 25th, 2025 - The French Indoor Nationals 2025 were completed at Aerokart in Paris without participation of the national teams in 4-way Open and 4-way Women. Aethers and Nephtys are in the middle of their preparations for the upcoming FAI Indoor World Championship, where they plan to win medals for France.

The French qualification for world championships and world cups is not a specific event that teams have to win. The French national coach has the authority to select the lineups for the national teams for a certain time period and change the lineups when it may become necessary. The French skydiving federation selects the national coach who works for the organization, defined in a contract.

The selected national teams represent the country at the major events for the agreed time period, whether they have won the national championships or not. They still compete at the French events regularly if the schedule fits in well enough for their training and competition agenda, which is mainly created with the purpose of representing the country as successfully as possible at the major events. The qualification system is obviously very different compared to most other countries, including the United States, where the national championships are the qualification events for the major FAI/ISC events that are coming up a year later. This year is a perfect example for the other qualification system in the United States, as 2024 indoor winner Arizona Airspeed compete at the indoor world championship, even though the Golden Knights are the reigning U.S. indoor champions of 2025.

Aerokart Ak'demie - Oblivion at the French Indoor Nationals 2025
AA Class awards at the French Indoor Nationals
FAI/ISC have no qualification rules for the teams who represent their respective countries at the major events. Each country's federation registers the national teams for the events, according to the domestic qualification rules and regulations. There are only FAI/ISC rules and regulations for sanctioning the participating countries and their delegations and for running the actual events.

The national championships in France are an opportunity for teams to win national medals that would surely be taken by the national teams. This year's national indoor championship even turned out to be as exciting as it may have never been before. The French national championships offer two categories in horizontal formation skydiving competition (AAA/AA), and the teams in contention for the top spot were tied after Round 10 on both leaderboards.

Four teams had to perform an additional round to break the tie, and both winners had special lineups. AAA Class winner Aerokart Ak'demie consisted of three 4-way juniors who have grown up in the school program of the windtunnel in Paris. 4-way senior  Pierre Cotigny completed the lineup. They outscored senior Open Class team Oblivion in Round 11, and two more senior teams on the AAA Class leaderboard, including Les Bones' 4-way Women lineup. AA Class winner Les Guerri Air Cahors has an all-female lineup, as well, and they won the extra round over Alban Rumolo's father Mickael Rumolo and Jean-Pierre Roussanides with his sons Antoine and Florian. Both teams first battled with the 4-way juniors of Bleu Cohesion and player-coach Alban Rumolo of Aethers Medjay himself, who finished two points behind in 3rd place.
