Did You Know...

... that Skywalkers Junior finished their last preparations at home with a 27.9 average?

Ready for the trip to North Carolina: Skywalkers Junior
posted Apr 3rd, 2025 - The NSL News adjusted the NSL Power Rankings preview in 4-way Open after the Swedish Indoor Nationals 2025. Echochamber had completed the ten rounds with a 27.0 average, which caused the closer look at the current situation on March 25th.

The most recent Echochamber scores lifted Sweden's national team in 4-way Open to the position of the top contender for the unofficial title of the amateur world champion team, with slight chances to even challenge NMP PCH HayaBusa and Arizona Airspeed round by round.

There needed to be another adjustment even later. The Czech Skywalkers Junior had missed the March meet of the Czech Tunnel League due to illness, and they were obviously fully recovered for the April competition. Echochamber had finished with the 27.0 average at the end of March, which was not a new team record average. The young Czech team made an even stronger and very serious statement after the ten rounds at the Hurricane Factory Prague yesterday. They had a 25.9 average in the team records as the highest number, which was the foundation for the latest rankings in 4-way Open. Now they lifted the team record average by two points to 27.9 which required the new adjustment.

The 27.9 average was completed after the ten rounds in the team's home chamber, and the competition draw was available on the 1st of April. Participating teams in the Czech Tunnel League and in other connected events of the World Tunnel League usually have the whole month to complete the ten rounds of the monthly competition draw. They may include the sequences at previous indoor training and then perform them on the event day.

It was a different situation for the April competition, which was scheduled for the day after the first day of the month, when the respective draws are getting posted. Skywalkers Junior and all other teams at the Hurricane Factory had no time and opportunity to prepare specifically for the April draw.

The draw did not seem to be on the faster side and accommodate the new team record with the significant increase from 25.9 to the 27.9 average. In fact, most of the Czech teams did not increase their own best averages yesterday.

The main question is now whether Skywalkers Junior will be able to carry the same level and momentum into the upcoming indoor world championship. There are other factors that come into play after they arrive at Paraclete XP.

Skywalkers Junior have not spent much time in a 16-foot flying chamber, with different views, references and significantly more space. They are most used to the 14-foot chamber of the Hurricane Factory. They arrive early enough at Paraclete XP to at least familiarize with the very different competition environment.

The atmosphere of a major indoor competition is not new for the team members who competed at the 4-way Junior events of the FAI indoor world cups and world championship with HF Flying Rebels and HF Chameleons in the past. The transition from the European time schedule to the U.S. east coast with the related 6-hour jet lag could also become a factor. Aethers Medjay, NMP PCH HayaBusa and other European teams will have to adopt to the different times of night and day, as well. That's where Arizona Airspeed and Brazil's 4-way team Netunos have a home advantage.

However, if Skywalkers Junior can manage the additional challenges successfully, then even the medal contenders could be up for a surprise. A great performance by Skywalkers Junior and Echochamber and an average meet for HayaBusa and Airspeed could create an even more exciting battle for the medals than expected so far.
