Did You Know...

... that Airbus preparations for the Shamrock Showdown are in full swing?

Airbus lineup at Crystal Coast 2024
posted Apr 6th, 2025 - There are still NSL News topics which are not directly related to the upcoming FAI Indoor World Championship 2025. The full attention of NSL News live event coverage will shift back to Paraclete XP at the beginning of the coming week where Round 1 is scheduled for Thursday morning.

The NSL News reported on January 4th that the German national team in 4-way Open continues with a new lineup. Claire Rebhahn and Tim Mack have replaced Sarah Mertes and Alexander Prendinger, who were in the Airbus lineup that battled with Echochamber for the unofficial amateur world championship title at the 26th FAI World Formation Skydiving Championships in October last year.

It has been quiet in the Airbus headquarters between October 2024 and January 2025, as team captain Thomas Mack was recruiting a new Airbus lineup for the next two years. He and former tail Felix Pfeiffer knew of one new Airbus member when they competed at Crystal Coast. Tim Mack was filming the team on a short call at the outdoor world championship in the video slot. New Airbus member Claire Rebhahn competed at the same event in 4-way Women with Meltemi Oceanside Illertissen. However, the four competitors of the new Airbus lineup in the three different positions at Crystal Coast did not know by then that they would eventually form the new lineup, which was then announced in January 2025.

Thomas Mack and his three new team mates still needed a new Airbus member in the camera slot, as Tim Mack gave it up to become the new point. The announcement in January did not include the new Airbus 4-way videographer, as Thomas Mack was still working on creating the logistics and environment for his older son Moritz to join the team, as well.

Today's NSL News visit at Skydive DeLand eventually revealed the new Airbus videographer, as Moritz Mack was filming the team for their first training jump with the new and complete lineup. Some Airbus members tested new equipment and Florida air on Saturday, while the first Airbus 4-way exit from the Cessna Caravan happened on Sunday morning.

The new Airbus 4-way lineup is aiming at the next outdoor world championship in 2026, and also at this year's national outdoor championship, which is the official qualifier for German 4-way teams. Airbus have been using indoor training in the winter to prepare for the start of the outdoor season, while they did not even compete at the German indoor championship last month. The previous Airbus lineup easily won last year's national indoor championship and would have been qualified for the upcoming indoor world meet. However, the changes in the lineup did not qualify the team any longer, according to the German rules and regulations, and the country will not be represented at Paraclete XP.

Jochen Schweizer Arena Airfource had competed for Germany at the previous indoor world championship inSlovakia 2025 and placed 5th, ahead of Sweden’s Echochamber. The team did not continue, and Airbus won the next qualification in 2024 on the same scoring level (25.4) as the Airforce (25.3) in 2022.

However, the new Airbus lineup did not have enough training since the personnel changes to continue for Germany as a contender for the unofficial amateur world championship title at Paraclete XP. and they are not eligible, according to German qualification rules and regulations.

The logistics would have been perfect and the same as for Aethers Medjay (FR), Arizona Airspeed (US), Qatar Lions (QA) and Netunos (BR), who travel from North Carolina to Florida and transition straight into the outdoor season at the Shamrock Showdown 2025.Airbus will spend the two weeks with coach Solly Williams and outdoor training at Skydive DeLand. Then the new lineup will show the results of the team's first training jumps at the same event, which will be the starting point into the outdoor season of 2025 for all other participating teams, as well.
