Did You Know...

... that China's delegation includes an 8-way team first time in history?

Defending France: Martial Ferre
posted Apr 9th, 2025 - The second visit of the NSL News on Wednesday was already much more lively compared to the first one on Tuesday. The activities had increased significantly, as all components of the actual competition had to be in place and tested. There were also still training sessions scheduled for the last day before the start of the competition.

The French 8-way team D'Arc8 was debriefing their last training session when the NSL News visited, and the team took the time for a few words, even though especially Marie Pineau needed some rest after the training and before a long day. Opening ceremony and competition draw will follow later, and the teams usually practice at least the sequence of Round 1 thoroughly.

Marie Pineau is the only French competitor with double duties this time. She is a member of the 8-way team D'Arc8, and she has been a Nephtys member since 2023.

The French 4-way Women team is competing for medals, just as the 8-way team will be in contention for the top positions.

Team captain Martial Ferre had more information of the team name, which relates to French history and the famous Jeanne D'Arc, a meaningful and honored female defender of the French nation in the 15th century. The team had no name available when they attended their first competition last year. Only later they agreed on Martial Ferre's suggestion, who is very knowledged in French history.

NSL TV Unfiltered: FAI Indoor World Championship Preview on Wednesday Morning
8-way Open Class team from China
The final leaderboards needed some adjustments, as well, not only the name change of the French 8-way team. The delegation from China does not include a team in 4-way Open. The 4-way Women team at Paraclete XP is the same lineup who won the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024 with a 30.5 average and placed 2nd at the outdoor competition of the 26th FAI World Formation Skydiving Championships.

Four other female competitors from China, who are also training in 4-way, join forces for the 8-way lineup from China. It is the first time in the history of formation skydiving competition that an 8-way team from China attends a world cup or a world championship. Only Great Britain ever had an all-female team, the Brit Chicks, represent the country in 8-way.

This brings double duties to the 4-way Women team from China who are the other half of the 8-way team. The number of national teams in 4-way Open are still the same, even without a 4-way Open Class team from China. Switzerland is represented in both horizontal 4-way events, Airdrops in 4-way Women, Realfly Fire in 4-way Open. Realfly Fire had also competed for Switzerland at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2023 in Slovakia.
