Did You Know...

... that the three 4-way Open medal winners never tied a score at Paraclete XP?

No tied scores: Aethers Medjay - Arizona Airspeed - NMP PCH HayaBusa
posted Apr 15th, 2025 - The third day of the FAI Indoor World Championship 2025 began with 8-way and VFS competition, after two days of 4-way in the early morning. The last two rounds were on the competition agenda, and the flying order was now adjusted, according to the current rankings after Round 8.

The biggest move waited for Skywalkers Junior who started in the first group of four teams in the flying chamber on Thursday and Friday. The Czech team was in 4th place after Round 8, and only Aethers Medjay, Arizona Airspeed and NMP PCH HayaBusa performed after them.

The 4-way Open Class competition turned out to feature the situation according to the NSL Power Rankings in the previews, and the expected battles took place throughout the whole competition. Only the top spot was in French hands from the beginning to the end, even though Aethers Medjay gave away more rounds than they probably wanted to. Arizona Airspeed (3) and NMP PCH HayaBusa (1) combined for a total of four sole highscores, France won the other six rounds. It was an extraordinary situation on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard, as none of the three medal winners ever tied a score between each other in all ten rounds.

NSL TV Unfiltered: Rounds 9 and 10 at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2025
Good spirits: Jan Klapka (center)
Skywalkers Junior were expected to compete for the unofficial amateur world championship title, according to the latest NSL Power Rankings. They even seemed to have the potential to challenge Arizona Airspeed and NMP PCH HayaBusa round by round. Eventually they won three rounds over one or the other medalist and tied two more rounds.

The Czech team was actually no longer a part of the race for the 4th place. They distanced themselves by 31 points from NFTO and FlyX Amnesya in 5th place and gave away only one single round to any team behind them, while they were much closer to NMP PCH HayaBusa in 3rd place. 16 points separated Skywalkers Junior from the Belgian 4-way world champions of 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2021.

It was no surprise that Czech 4-way godfather Jan Klapka was in good spirits when his former 4-way juniors, with a current average age of under 18 years, were on their way to the flying chamber for Round 9, together with the three best 4-way teams in the world. Jan Klapka did not expect FAI medals at this point in time, and he is not even aiming at just any FAI medal. He and his team have plans for a longer time period, and they leave no doubt that they want to become world champions one day. Their 5th team member Michal Mikolasek was a part of the Czech delegation at Paraclete XP, as well.

4-way Open at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2025: Aethers Medjay - Arizona Airspeed - NMP PCH HayaBusa
Highly contested 5th place: NFTO
Qatar coach Gary Smith explained the situation of the Qatar Lions in their battle for the 5th place at the same time on the later Saturday morning. The Lions were the leader of the group of the five teams behind Skywalkers Junior after Round 8. The young Qatar Lions, new national team in 4-way Open, could not maintain the position and ended up behind NFTO and FlyX Amnesya from Italy.

The teams behind Skywalkers Junior had their internal battle on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard, even without the Czech team. NFTO and FlyX Amnesya in 5th place were separated from Spain's Papea in 9th place by only six points, and all five teams exchanged highscores round by round. NFTO won this internal battle for the 5th place with the cleanest performance of the same five teams.

Dutch team Out Of The Blue (OOTB) claimed the last Top 10 position over Realfly Fire from Switzerland. The ranking order of the second half of the 4-way Open Class leaderboard was in place after Round 8 and did not change again. Only NFTO and FlyX Amnesya used the last two rounds to move up the leaderboard and ahead of the Qatar Lions. Tom Mattoni's brother Noe was the first one to congratulate him after Round 10. The NSL News met later with Stephane, Tom and Noe Mattoni for NSL Live Talk.
