posted May 3rd, 2025 - Neither the NSL News audience, nor teams or coaches in 4-way Formation Skydiving competition could have been surprised any longer when the Czech team Skywalkers Junior impressed with their performance at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2025. The NSL News has followed the development of the Czech team for many years, from 4-way junior training and competition as children to AFF training and finally their first world championship as 4-way seniors.

However, even the NSL News had to make adjustments before Skywalkers Junior eventually showed up at Paraclete XP last month. There was still progression in the few months of the new year, after they posted a 24.9 average at their first 2025 indoor competition in January and completed their last 10-round meet before the world championship with 27.9 at the last event of the Czech Tunnel League at the beginning of April.

The NSL News had to move up Skywalkers Junior to the top spot of the expected seven contenders for the unofficial world amateur championship title in the NSL Power Rankings. Skywalkers Junior did not even agree practically with this favorable adjustment. They decided that they were not competing for an unofficial amateur top spot and rather challenge the medal contenders with the big names, such as NMP PCH HayaBusa and Arizona Airspeed. They were not only talking openly about their goals to make it to the top spot in the world. They were in 3rd place after Round 4 at the end of the first competition day.

NSL Live Talk with Skywalkers Junior after Round 4 at Paraclete XP and in August 2023

Most of the teams do not feel like talking much with the media when they are in the middle of the competition, and NSL Talk conversations usually have to be scheduled for any time after Round 10. Skywalkers Junior did not have a problem discussing their situation after the completion of the first four rounds. It was obviously not a big surprise for themselves that they were in 3rd place after Round 4.

They could not maintain the medal position this time, and Aethers Medjay were out of reach for all teams at Paraclete XP. Skywalkers Junior were still closer to bronze medal winner NMP PCH HayaBusa than any team behind the Czech team was to them.

The young Czech team with an average age of 18+ had increased the distance to the first amateur contender (NFTO/FlyX Amnesya) to 29 points, while they eventually finished 16 points behind the Belgians. Skywalkers Junior are the unofficial amateur world champion, and the distance to the other contenders was surely unexpected for everybody, including the NSL News. The 29.0 average after all ten rounds was a new team record number, approved by the world's most experienced judges, leaving their own previous 27.9 in the dust. The total of eleven point deductions is showing that Skywalkers Junior performs already on the 30+ level, which will most likely be the Czech standard at the next indoor season.

Skywalkers Junior at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2025

The most impressive performance at the indoor world championship could easily overshadow the fact that Skywalkers Junior are not only indoor competitors, as they were known for in the past years as 4-way juniors. They have turned into outdoor 4-way competitors, team member by team member at Jan Klapka's 4-way school in Most.

They attended their first AA Class outdoor competition in June 2023 (8.4) and moved up quickly to AAA Class competition a month later, with a 13.6 average. Another month later, they won the national outdoor championship with a 14.4 average.

Skywalkers Junior then completed eight 10-round indoor competitions during the next winter season and came back to outdoor 4-way a year after their first meet, now on a 15+ average level in June 2024. Then they concluded last year's outdoor season with the 17.0 average at the ESL Championship 2024. Outdoor competition in the Czech Republic will begin again in June, and Skywalkers Junior will most likely launch their new outdoor season with the next surprising and impressive performance. They could meet some of their indoor opponents at Paraclete XP again at the FAI Outdoor World Cup in Teuge this year. They may not be able to challenge the medal contenders as they did at the indoor competition, however, they will surely reduce the outdoor distance, as well.
