It is a very exciting time for the coaches, observers, friends and family too, who are done with getting their favorite teams ready for the beginning of the competition. It still does not reflect in any what is going on in minds and hearts of the teams and competitors, as the NSL News covered often in and after many conversations with the actual athletes, and their teams entering the jump planes for Round 1.
Coach Gary Smith explained that things are slipping out of his control as soon as the teams he is training are moving from the boarding area to the jump plane. It happened to him again this morning when it was NMP PCH HayaBusa's turn to enter the Cessna Caravan for Round 1. There is nothing that a coach can do any longer to prepare the team and help them to the performance. He said that it was easier to perform Round 1 as a competitor when he won his world championship titles than feeling as helpless as a coach when the team enters the jump plane. The pressure for a competitor in Round 1 seems to be even less than the one of the coach, while the performance pressure and anxiety is already on a totally different dimension for the athletes.
Aethers Lille, NMP PCH HayaBusa and Echochamber shared the first load of top contenders at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025, while SDC Rhythm XP were still in the landing area when the NSL TV camera was running. The 4-way Open Class teams from France and Belgium compete for the medal positions at Skydive Teuge, while Echochamber are aiming once again at the 4th place on the same leaderboard, which usually features the unofficial amateur world champion team.
Aethers (1st) and HayaBusa (2nd) were in the positions that they were expected in after Round 1, while Echochamber were outscored by four of their direct opponents (Skywalkers Junior, Agera, SDC Rhythm XP, RhEvolution XP). However, the experienced Swedish competitors fixed the situation in the next round and took the 4th place. The 4-way teams will complete four rounds on Friday, before 8-way and 4-way VFS teams will launch their competition in the afternoon.
