Did You Know...

... that Gary Smith and Mathieu Bernier evaluated the situation after Round 4?

Expected battle for 2nd place: NMP PCH HayaBusa
posted Aug 29th, 2025 - The 4-way teams completed their first four rounds successfully, while the 8-way teams were stopped by cloudy weather after Round 1. This one single round was still more exciting than expected, as U.S. team Prison 9, with all SDC Rhythm XP members in the lineup, finished Round 1 only one single point behind the Qatar Falcons.

The 1-point difference in Round 1 still needs to be confirmed by Prison 9 before they become a serious challenger for the Falcons. The Qatar 8-way team completed the whole Block 19 and were stopped in the transition to the 20th point, a Diamond Flake (F). while Prison 9 had just started to begin rotating the two diamond pieces to score the 18th point. However, a 1-point difference was still unexpected and surprising, and there could be a competition on the top of the 8-way leaderboard.

The 4-way Open Class leaderboard features the expected battle between Golden Knights and NMP PCH HayaBusa, who both try to reduce the distance to Aethers Lille. The French national team in 4-way Open has not given away a round yet, even though the Golden Knights tied the 20-pointer highscore in Round 3. The U.S. Army team is nine points behind after Round 4, which is almost exactly the same difference after Round 4 at the Shamrock Showdown 2025 where the lead was eight points at the same time. All three top teams have lost the same number of points (3) in the judging room.

Expected battle for 4th place: Skywalkers Junior
The situation behind the medal rankings features the expected battle for the 4th place, as well. The four teams directly behind are separated by three points after Round 4, and the next two U.S. teams (U.S. Team - RhEvolution XP) are not out of the race for the 4th place yet. RhEvolution XP might have even shocked the 4th place contenders with their 27-pointer in Round 1.

However, three points ahead of this group of contenders for the 4th place are the Nephtys Maubeuge on the combined 4-way leaderboard. The Nephtys have no competition in 4-way Women, while they can see good targets by looking at the 4-way Open Class leaderboard. Norwegian 4-way Women team Thyra is challenged as little in 2nd place on the 4-way Women leaderboard as Nephtys are in 1st place. Thyra are also outscoring four Open Class teams, while the remaining three teams with all-female lineups are at the bottom of the combined 4-way leaderboard. They will battle for the FAI bronze medals in 4-way Women, and they are separated by only three points after Round 4.

The first NSL Coaches Corner at Skydive Teuge brought Gary Smith and Mathieu Bernier together when the 4-way competition was over for the day. They evaluated the current situation on the 4-way leaderboards. Gary Smith is helping NMP PCH HayaBusa on his visits from Texel, and Mathieu Bernier has his two national 4-way teams in the lead at the moment. The 8-way teams are still on a weather hold after the completion of Round 1.
