Did You Know...

... that Airbus try to defend FAI 8-way bronze medals for Germany?

Airbus 8-way in Eloy 2022
posted Aug 30th, 2025 - Matt Landsmann produced the daily summary of the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025 for Skydive Teuge, and Regan Tetlow was once again in charge of the entertaining part. The 6-minute video clip covered the activities on the first day of the competition.

There was more than enough time on Saturday to watch whatever has been made available, as the weather situation did not allow any more rounds in any event until mid-afternoon. Teams and competitors were well prepared when the weather changed quickly, and meet director Ronald Overdijk, ISC delegate for the Netherlands, called all events into action as soon as the weather conditions were good enough.

The 8-way and VFS teams had priority after completing only one round on Friday. However, the three Cessna Caravans could lift more participants to the respective jump altitudes, and 4-way teams began to perform their Round 5 in the afternoon, as well. The mix of four formation skydiving events (4-way Open, 4-way Women, 4-way VFS, 8-way) had to be synchronized with the artistic events, as well, and the meet director had his hands full to use the window with good weather. Several 4-way competitors are competing in 8-way lineups, as well, and the double duties had to be considered for the event management. The events are usually separated by half-days, while the discretion of the meet director can change the originally scheduled event times if it becomes necessary.

Operation Adler 8-way at Crystal Coast 2024
With 8-way priority and without any double duties, the Qatar Falcons boarded the jump plane early and as soon as the operation resumed. The Falcons responded to the Round 1 challenge by Prison 9 as a well trained and experienced team would do, and they made clear in Round 2 that they have no intention of allowing another team to get anywhere close. The 20-pointer in Round 2 added four points to the lead over the strongest U.S. team.

An interesting situation seems to develop behind the two teams on the top of the leaderboard. Airbus are trying to defend Germany's 3rd place at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2024, where Operation Adler had defended the Airbus bronze medals of Eloy 2022 successfully.

Operation Adler did not sign up for the outdoor world cup, and it's Airbus’ turn again to win FAI medals. European gold medals are already guaranteed for the Germans, while the 3rd place on the world cup leaderboard is much more meaningful. However, Airbus have to finish ahead of the other two U.S. teams, Mandatory Fun! and Bra Nok, before they can step up on the 8-way podium. It's a 1-point difference between Craig Girard's 8-way team and Airbus after two rounds. Prison 9 confirmed their dominance over their U.S. fellow 8-way teams in both 8-way rounds.
