Did You Know...

... that Germany's Airbus 8-way team need a substitute?

Airbus Oceanside Illertissen at Skydive Teuge
posted Aug 31st, 2025 - The last NSL News update from the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025 on Saturday covered the 8-way competition after Round 2. The efforts of the German 8-way team Airbus Oceanside Illertissen to defend Germany's bronze medal position in the world was the main topic.

The story mentioned that Airbus won the first FAI medals for Germany at a world championship since 1985 when they placed 3rd at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022. Operation Adler defended the FAI bronze medals successfully at Crystal Coast 2024, and Airbus came to Skydive Teuge to do the same this year at the outdoor world cup.

The situation after Round 2 on Saturday was promising for the German 8-way team, who were only one point behind U.S. team Mandatory Fun! with player-coach Craig Girard. Then 8-way disaster happened in Round 3. Airbus collected as many point deductions as the final score of five points was, and they found themselves seven points behind Mandatory Fun! Current Airbus members Carl Enders, Steffen Schiedek and team videographer Erik Lorenz probably remembered their previous disaster situation in Eloy 2022 when level trouble caused a 4-point score in Round 5. However, Airbus of 2022 recovered quickly and still won the bronze medals after outscoring their opponents for the bronze medals in the remaining five rounds.

Day 2 Summary of the FAI Indoor World Cup - Produced by Matt Landsmann
DFV President and Airbus 8-way competitor Henning Stumpp
The new Airbus lineup of 2024/2025, now with Karin Bauch, Shaline Dincher, Carola Fietz, Andreas Höhne, Henning Stumpp and Manfred Moritz, recovered at least as well as Carl Enders, Steffen Schiedek and team videographer Erik Lorenz remembered it from Eloy 2022. They outscored their significantly stronger direct opponents, compared to 2022, in Round 4 with the impressive 15-pointer and were back in bronze medal business.

Then a different disaster struck again when Henning Stumpp experienced a broken line and could not land the compromised parachute well enough after the great performance in Round 4. He broke a bone of his left foot and had to withdraw for the remainder of the event.

The competition was over for the day, and Henning Stumpp ended up in the hospital for an injury check. The president of the German skydiving federation returned with a cast on his left leg, which was the end of the 8-way competition for him. All events have been on a weather hold on Sunday morning, and the German delegation is desperately trying to find a solution for the problem. Team videographer Erik Lorenz may have to step into the active slot, and somebody else would take the camera slot. No matter which solution Airbus 8 may find for the problem - the bronze medals are currently far out of reach.
