Did You Know...

... that this week's German 4-way leaderboard will be under careful scrutiny?

Airbus 4-way at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2024
posted Sep 7th, 2025 - The NSL News transition from Skydive Teuge in the Netherlands to the Skyfactory in Stadtlohn is complete, and the German Outdoor Nationals 2025 have begun this weekend. The German 4-way and 8-way teams are not posting scores yet, as their competitions begins on Tuesday in 4-way, Thursday in 8-way.

However, Germany's defending 4-way champions, the Airbus 4-way team, are already in training action to become familiar with the unknown environment in Stadtlohn. The Airbus 4-way team is a completely different entity, and there is no overlapping between the Airbus 4-way and Airbus 8-way teams.

The 4-way team did not compete at the outdoor world cup and plan to win the national outdoor championship, while the 8-way team was covered well by the NSL News at Skydive Teuge and had no plans to compete at the national outdoor championship. However, there is common territory between the Airbus 4-way team and the defending German 8-way champions of Operation Adler, who will both compete in Stadtlohn this week. Airbus 4-way members Thomas Mack and Felix Pfeiffer both had double duties in 4-way and 8-way at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2024, and they will compete once again in both events at the national outdoor championship. Former Airbus 4-way member Alexander Prendinger was also competing in 8-way with Operation Adler at Crystal Coast and did not come back this year, neither in 4-way nor in 8-way.

from Tail to Inside Center. Former Meltemi member Claire Rebhahn has taken the tail slot, and Thomas Mack's son Tim has replaced Sarah Mertes as the new point. He was on camera for Airbus 4-way at the outdoor world championship last year. His older brother Moritz is now on camera.

Team captain Thomas Mack wanted to make sure that his new Airbus lineup qualifies for the outdoor world championship in 2026 and decided with his team to skip the outdoor world cup and rather focus only on the national outdoor championship. There does not seem to be serious opposition for the new Airbus lineup, who are now more under serious scrutiny by national teams from other countries, especially the ones who competed at Skydive Teuge last week and battled for the highest position behind the medal winners.

In return, the Airbus 4-way team followed the 4-way competition in the Netherlands very carefully, as the leaderboard included most of the teams who will be in contention for the unofficial amateur world championship title next year at Skydive Arizona in Eloy. The Czech Skywalkers, Echochamber from Sweden and Norway's 4-way Open Class team Agera were separated by only two points at the end of their battle for the 4th place of the national teams. The same three teams posted 19+ averages at the end, and a 20+ average will probably be needed next year to finish in 4th place.

The current Top 10 rankings of the national teams in the 4-way Open Class world reflect the order that a world championship would generate if all teams applied the same competition draw. Skwalkers (CZ), Echochamber (SE) and Agera (NO) did exactly that at the outdoor world cup, together with Aethers Lille (FR), Golden Knights (US), NMP PCH HayaBusa (BE) and Out Of The Blue (NL). British team SOAR, Qatar Cheetahs and Airbus posted their best averages at different events.

The Airbus average of 18.0 is three months old and was posted by the new lineup at the Paranodon Cup 2025 on their home turf in Illertissen, a few months after the 16.5 average at the Shamrock Showdown 2025 in April. Most likely, Airbus will be ready to increase the scoring level this week and join the national teams from Czech Republic, Sweden and Norway on the 19+ level.

Britsh team SOAR posted a 19+ average last year, and either the Lions or the Cheetahs from Qatar will probably join the same teams at least on the 19+ level in the coming 12 months before they could meet again at the next world championship. The battle for the 4th place was already a thriller at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025, and it promises to become even more exciting next year. Airbus want to be a part of this exciting competition of unofficial amateur teams and break through the 20-point threshold at the same time. This week's scores will be telling, and their potential opponents will be watching the German leaderboard carefully.
