Did You Know...

... that the German 4-way teams have a golden opportunity in Round 8?

Tim, Moritz and Thomas Mack observing the weather situation
posted Sep 9th, 2025 - The weather conditions at the Skyfactory in Stadtlohn, Germany, allowed at least a few training jumps on Monday. Airbus 4-way Illertissen Oceanside, Germany's national team in 4-way Open, did two on Sunday and Monday morning, then added another one after Airbus videographer Moritz Mack had picked up coach Michele Silvi from the airport.

Airbus were not shy of providing the NSL News with the videos of the training jumps for a good reason. It seems like the German top contender for the national championship title is just as well prepared as it was expected, after they had decided to skip the outdoor world cup and focus only on the national outdoor championship.

Importing coach Michele Silvi from Italy/Dubai for the competition is showing how serious Airbus are about winning their next national 4-way title with the new lineup. The videos of the three training jumps confirm Airbus on the performance and scoring level that the contenders for the world's unofficial amateur championship title were featuring at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025. Airbus still have to confirm the same scoring level in competition and in the ten rounds that will hopefully begin soon. The weather situation in and around Stadtlohn has not improved at all. Meet director Helmut Bastuck, one of the best in the even management business, is hoping to get the Cessna Caravan jump planes off the ground at the end of the day for a few hours of daylight.

Complete Airbus lineup at Skyfactory in Stadtlohn
Airbus 4-way Illertissen Oceanside are only competing with themselves and to compare their performance and scoring level with other national teams in the world. There is no other German team anywhere close to them this year. However, the competition for the second place could become interesting, as three teams seem to be in contention for the remaining two sets of German medals.

Dark NeVa won the German outdoor bronze medals last year, behind the two German national teams of 2024, Airbus (4-way Open) and Meltemi (4-way Women). NeVa member Henning Stumpp is obviously not available after his landing accident at Skydive Teuge, and former Meltemi member Petra Jastram is filling the open slot at least adequately. Erik Lorenz moves back behind the camera for Dark NeVa.

Fi4na won the German bronze medals at this year's national indoor championship, and they are back with the same lineup for their first outdoor competition. The third potential contender for the place behind Airbus is a dark horse called Airmix. The team members are highly experienced 4-way and 8-way competitors, all of them former German champions and members of the national teams, also with Erik Lorenz on camera. Karin Bauch and Erik Lorenz competed together for the Airbus 8-way team at the outdoor world cup in Teuge. Thomas Spielvogel re-joins forces with his former Airbus 8-way team mate Karin Bauch in 4-way, while he competes with Operation Adler this year.

NSL Live Talk with Airbus coach Michele Silvi
Jörn and Max Thiele with Paratec-Saar delegation in Menzelinsk 2010
Airbus coach Michele Silvi will not pay too much attention to the situation behind the team that he has been coaching for two years, together with Solly Williams who has been supervising the progression of the Airbus 4-way team for many years. The former NMP PCH HayaBusa 4-way world champion of 2021, Michele Silvi, was training with his player-coach team Yasuke in Dubai before arriving in Stadtlohn, in preparation for indoor competitions this winter.

Michele Silvi had enough time for new NSL Live Talk while Airbus climbed to altitude for one of the three training jumps. The conversation included a brief review of the HayaBusa performance at the outdoor world cup and the situation that Airbus could be facing until and at the next outdoor world championship in Eloy 2026.

The goals for Michele Silvi and Airbus are set, as they plan to confirm the training performance in the ten competition rounds, which would be a very promising start into the 1-year run-up to the most relevant event in the sport. However, there is also a special occasion and opportunity waiting for all participating teams in Round 8. The Super Sequence (F,M,N,E,B) seems to have a nice flow, and the German record number for a single round will be in jeopardy. Paratec-Saar members Markus Bastuck, Dieter Schwarz, Jörn and Max Thiele still own the 53-pointer record number that they posted in Menzelinsk 2010, with Alexander Hau on camera. Jörn and Max Thiele may have the opportunity to watch the challenge of their record number live at Skyfactory, as they are in the Operation Adler lineup for the 8-way competition.
