Did You Know...

... that Operation Adler qualified for Eloy 2026 with one competition round?

Termination vote at the German Outdoor Nationals
posted Sep 12th, 2025 - The Germany Outdoor Nationals 2025 were over much earlier than expected, while the outcome was everything but a surprise. Airbus 4-way Illertissen Oceanside had just as little competition in the 4-way AAA Class as Operation Adler had in 8-way. Both teams will represent Germany at the next outdoor world championship in Eloy 2026.

There was still an unusual surprise at the event, which was related to the weather situation. Meet director Helmut Bastuck and the 4-way teams together were already struggling with the jumping conditions in the first two days of the competition (Tuesday/Wednesday). However, all 22 teams still completed four rounds in all four categories (AAA - AA - A - RRR).

The weather conditions were not much better on the third day of the formation skydiving competition when the two registered 8-way teams were supposed to have their turn, with the 4-way teams and other events adding more competition rounds at the same time. Operation Adler's complete current lineup were ready to go, and they had even brought their French coach Damien Sorlin to supervise the competition performance, despite the lack of serious opposition at all. Strong winds and random rain showers kept all German teams and competitors on the ground all day long until even the most passionate participants gave up hope and patience.

Quick call to the plane: Operation Adler
Meet director Helmut Bastuck gathered all team captains of all events for a meeting on Thursday afternoon and explained the weather situation that could be expected until and throughout the weekend. Then he offered three options to deal with the situation, which suggested an early termination of the event on Thursday (1) or Friday evening (2) and waiting out until the officially scheduled completion on Saturday evening (3).

The team captains had 20 minutes of time to discuss the suggestions with their team mates and return with a vote for one of the three options. A significant majority of the participants decided that the meet should be over on the same day, Thursday, at 7 pm. The earlier termination of a national outdoor championship in Germany would be the first time in history.

The decision had been made, and it took only less than an hour until the weather conditions turned around completely. The 8-way teams were called to the Cessna Caravan quickly for their first and only competition round before the next waves of clouds and rain approached. However, it cleared again just as quickly, and the next opportunity of more competition jumps escaped unused. Dinner, award ceremony and party concluded the shortest national outdoor championship ever on Thursday evening, while the worst part was still waiting for the participants. Friday morning surprised and greeted them with great weather conditions.
