Did You Know...

... that the original Arizona Airspeed lineup is back in 4-way action?

World's #1: Aethers Lille in action over Eloy
posted Oct 24th, 2025 - There is motion on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard of the USPA Nationals 2025 even before the competition has started with Round 1 on Sunday. After the removal of Spaceland Lite, eight U.S. teams were on the first NSL Power Rankings behind the French national team in 4-way Open, Aethers Lille.

Two newly registered 4-way Open Class teams make it a total of eleven teams at the moment. Kim Hollander, Spaceland Lite member of 2016 - 2019, is leading Ranch TNT into a 4-way Women competition with XP Angels, which turns now into a serious qualification battle for the one and only slot in the U.S. delegation at the outdoor world championship next year. Niklas Hemlin is helping the new team to get ready for the 4-way Women duel.

The Golden Knights coach is also one of the members in the lineup of a special Arizona Airspeed reunion. The original members and 4-way world champions of 1995 and 1997, Dan BC, Jack Jefferies, Kirk Verner and Mark Kirkby are not only visiting Skydive Arizona this time, as they did at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022. They are registered for the competition as Double Trouble, with Jeana Billings in the tail slot. Different lineups of the 6-way did a few 4-way training jumps on Friday and enjoyed each other's company in freefall. Kirk Verner and Jeana Billings are also leading the new Paraclete XP8 lineup into the team's first competition beginning on Tuesday.

4-way Open Class gold medal collections at FAI Outdoor World Championships since 1985
Airspeed reunion lineup after a training jump
The previous reunion of the original Airspeed lineup in Eloy 2022 took place when the lineup of 2021 - 2024 (Niklas Hemlin, Mikhail Markine, Joey Marshall, Chris Kuhlmann, Brendan Haddon on camera), won their first FAI world championship gold medals. The French Aethers Lille did not even finish in a medal position by then.

The situation is very different now, and Aethers Lille have taken the world's 4-way top spot, out of reach at the moment for any other 4-way teams. It resembles the situation as it was before Arizona Airspeed was launched as a team project at Skydive Arizona. The French national teams in 4-way Open dominated the world's 4-way competition and had won FAI gold medals at four consecutive outdoor world championships (1987 - 1989 - 1991 - 1993). That's when the four original Airspeed members decided to join forces and change the 4-way world.

It worked out well, as Dan BC, Jack Jefferies, Kirk Verner and Mark Kirkby won FAI gold in 1995 and 1997, and other Airspeed lineups added their shares to the medal collection in Eloy later. Mark Kirkby is still the most successful 4-way competitor in history with five FAI world championship gold medals. He and the complete original lineup will now witness how the next and young French 4-way team showcases the new world leader. This time there is nothing they can do about it. The current Airspeed lineup have to win next week to have a chance and bring the William H. Ottley Sword for the 4-way world champions back to Arizona, where the 4-way Excalibur is still located at the moment.
