Did You Know...

... that Airspeed's Joey Marshall forgot something before Round 1?

Round 1: Where is Joey Marshall...?
posted Oct 26th, 2025 - The infamous and exciting Round 1 brought a big surprise to the 4-way Open Class competition, and it was showing once again how challenging the meet opener can be. Arizona Airspeed started with the best round on home turf and even outscored the French national team in 4-way Open by a point, after a penalty deduction for Aethers Lille.

The Golden Knights became the biggest victim of the Round 1 pressure. The three top teams on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard actually all completed the same 24 points within working time, while the U.S. Army team lost three points, Aethers one point in the judging room. Niklas Hemlin had to begin his meet coaching of the Golden Knights by guiding them through the recovery and make up for a 3-point difference.

The mental strength of Golden Knights and Aethers Lille both became obvious in Round 2 when they shared the highscore for the round. The French took the expected lead in Round 2, after the lost first round, and the Golden Knights reduced the difference to Arizona Airspeed right away to one single point. SDC Rhythm XP is in the USPA bronze medal position, even though they have two strong challengers right behind them.

NSL TV Unfiltered: Round 1 on Sunday Morning
The Marshall family on Sunday morning
Arizona Airspeed actually had a false start into Round 1, which is a part of the first NSL TV Unfiltered video clip of the day. The four teams for the very first Twin Otter load were ready to depart on the plane train truck when Airspeed's Joey Marshall realized that he had forgotten something he needed before entering the jump plane for Round 1.

He jumped off the truck to get what he was missing, while the taxi driver started the vehicle for the trip to the boarding area. Joey Marshall's team mates and other passengers stopped the truck driver from leaving with a very important person missing. It took a little while and a visit at the Airspeed team room until Joey Marshall was back with his team mates on the truck for the Round 1 adventure.

Round 2 was featuring the convincing recovery of Aethers Lille and Golden Knights, even though the bigger challenge was probably Joey Marshall's pre-game for Round 1. The new father had not kissed his wife Kelsey and their baby good-by before leaving. On the way to fix this he noticed that he was also missing his second glove. He met his family, found the glove and made it timely to the plane. He and his team mates mastered the unusual situation for any training or competition jump and today’s Round 1 like world champions and had their own very convincing start into the competition. They completed the meet opener with the highscore and without any point deductions.
