Did You Know...

... that there is still a battle for medals in Qatar?

NMP PCH HayaBusa lineup in Tanay 2021
posted Nov 19th, 2025 - The absence of Golden Knights and a Qatar home team has turned the military CISM World Championship into a walk in the park for NMP PCH HayaBusa, as the NSL News reported on November 17th. The Belgian team with the new CISM lineup were hoping for a battle situation with their expected strong opponents from the United States and Qatar. Instead they are 19 points ahead after three rounds, compared to the 4-point win after ten rounds last year.

There is no doubt that NMP PCH HayaBusa will win their 17th consecutive set of CISM gold medals, this time with all-time member David Grauwels on camera and new member Ray Lodens in the point slot. Team captain Dennis Praet reminded the NSL News on the fact though that it is not the first CISM world championship with David Grauwels on camera. He was filming the team at the same event and at the same location in 2021, as well. It was the year when Michele Silvi competed with Andy Grauwels, Dennis Praet and Jeroen Nollet in the active lineup in front of the camera.

David Grauwels came back to his inside center slot when CISM medals needed to be guaranteed at the following events with new lineups, until last year's competition in Hungary, where David Grauwels won his 16th CISM gold medal after the exciting battle with the Golden Knights. He is back on camera now, and new member Ray Lodens will win his first world championship gold medal in the active lineup by surprise. His team did not expect that it would be as easy this year as it turns out to be.

Rounds 1 - 3 of NMP PCH HayaBusa at the CISM World Championship 2025
NMP PCH HayaBusa lineup in 2025
The new and unexpected situation at the CISM World Championship was more than enough reason for the NSL News to ask NMP PCH HayaBusa for a live update from Qatar. Team captain Dennis Praet and Inside Center Neal Willems could make themselves available quite easily. It's a slow pace for the 4-way competition at a CISM world championship, and the weather situation with high winds made it even slower.

NMP PCH HayaBusa take the event as a training competition at its best. The extra training of the CISM dive pool that they had dedicated to preparations for the potential battle with Golden Knights and the Qatar home team might not have been necessary to win the competition without the two major opponents.

The preparations included elimination of exit and sub-terminal maneuvers, as the NSL News reported on October 22nd, after a visit at Skydive City for the last HayaBusa outdoor training before the trip to Qatar. The CISM dive pool has its own additional specifics, including the three random formations in each of the eight competition sequences. It includes a 17th random formation (R) that changed from a Caterpillar (FAI Block 15) to a Bundy (FAI Block 12) this year. None of the changes and the transition from the FAI/ISC dive pool to the CISM dive pool is a serious challenge for the Belgians, while they still needed a few jumps to become familiar with it after the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025.

Papea at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025
The situation at the CISM World Championship in Qatar might not be too challenging for NMP PCH HayaBusa. However, the absence of the usual medal contenders of the past years (Golden Knights, Tigers) is opening up the two medal positions behind Belgium for other national CISM teams.

NMP PCH HayaBusa are now one of the two only teams in the 4-way Male event with 14 teams who participate exclusively in 4-way. All other teams are also competing in Accuracy and Style, which makes it difficult for them to keep up with 4-way experts like NMP PCH HayaBusa, Golden Knights and formerly Qatar Tigers.

The NSL News reported in the past that Spain's national 4-way team, Papea, also competes in both events, CISM and FAI/ISC world championships and world cups. Papea had a slow start into the competition, after five point deductions due to the camera angle and an additional infringement, and they lost two more points in Round 2. They came back with vengeance in Round 3 and posted the highest score behind NMP PCH HayaBusa. Papea still have five more rounds to claim a medal position that Belgium, United States and Qatar denied them in the past years. Turkiye, Germany and Czech Republic will try to stay ahead and win the open medal positions for their countries.
