The scores are still posted on last weekend's leaderboard and will be replaced by new results this weekend. The AA Class team Pareto Optimal is still ranked within the Top 3 after a great 10-round performance. Six of the Pareto jumps can be reviewed on NSL-TV. Especially Round 6 is worth a look, as the Midwest team impresses with a dynamic performance and eventually ties the 12-pointer highscore posted by ESL AA Class champion of 2009, the Dutch team Ignition.
Alan Butt has been the MWSL Director for many years. He is the Center Outside for Pareto Optimal and provided the meet story for the NSL News.
2009 has challenged Midwestern skydivers with the worst jumping weather in decades, but Meet 4 was blessed with one of the nicest days of the summer. A season high eight teams kept Chicagoland Skydiving busy all day Saturday. We had two teams in each of the four NSL classes; each of the teams had competed in at least one prior meet this season. Competition was very close in two of the classes, and a new league mark was set in another.
The AAA Class featured two of the best teams in the history of Midwestern skydiving: SDC Rhythm XP and SDC Furies XP. Rhythm made MWSL history last meet by scoring a 37 in the elective round ten. Today they made NSL history by posting a 19.7 average, the highest score ever by a "weekend" team. The Furies, who were accompanied by team coach Brian Johnson, finished with a strong 15.5 average, almost two points higher than their previous meet.
Just4Fun struggled with their exits and finished with a 4.2 average. Pareto continued to stay near the top of the NSL AA Class leaderboard after posting a 10.4 average. Pareto won one of two meet prizes and selected 12 free pack jobs from CSC as their reward.
4Way to Hell, with three members of last year's team On the Fly, and Butch Please matched up in the A Class. BP opened up with a team high 10-point jump, but only one point separated the two teams after four rounds. Both teams had strong rounds five and six, and in the end, BP's 1-point lead stood up, leaving them with a winning total of 38 points. Butch Please was awarded one of two meet prizes for their performance.
It still wasn't enough, and the Fish escaped with a 1-point victory and a team high of 31 points. Also, Tango Point Kati Matkya celebrated her 100th jump during the meet.
Thanks to Doug, Lisa and the rest of the CSC staff for being gracious hosts for our season finale. Rhythm members served as meet coaches for the third time this season, ensuring that everyone had high quality input before their jumps. Airspeed alumnus and Pareto coach Andy Honigbaum served as meet judge.
We had a great season here in the MWSL despite a terrible economy and awful weather. Thanks to everyone who participated in and supported the league this season. Good luck to those going on to compete on the national stage. I look forward to more fun MWSL competition in 2010.
