The NSL News had reported on 12 February 2009 that the Brazilian national 4-way team of the past years, CTR Optimum, had a personnel change at the beginning of the 2009 season. Optimum's videographer since 2003, Renato "Chubby" Gordinho, took the Center Inside slot, and Daiton Ribeiro became the new Tail. Kalley Ferreira was the new CTR videographer. Daiton Ribeiro was already an Optimum member in 2003 and 2004.
The new lineup competed for the first time this year and had a 14.3 average on the leaderboard after the three rounds. Three other teams competed in the AAA/Open Class. Two of them gave the national team of the past years a good competition in the first two rounds before Optimum's new lineup ran away in Round 3. Optimum's Friends, the 1-point leader after Round 2, could not complete Round 3 and is therefore officially the new Brazilian 4-way champion.
The scores after three rounds cannot really tell much. However, CTR Optimum finished with a 14.3 average after three sequences, which indicated an average competition draw. The new lineup seems to pick up the pace at a little higher level compared to where the previous lineup was at the end of the 2008 season.
The next team activities include a wind tunnel camp in Orlando and a 4-way camp in Brazil, both in November. The new competition season in Brazil begins usually in March.
