Did You Know...

... that Team DiZaster fixed the early exit problems mostly at the FSL meets?

posted Dec 10th, 2009 - The NSL News reported the first half of the Rookie Class competition for the NSL Championship title of 2009 between Relativity from Colorado and Team DiZaster from Skydive City with the story on 23 November 2009. The same story inluded the videos of the first five rounds at the NSL Championship 2009. The missing videos of rounds six to ten have now been uploaded, as well, and they are available for reviews.

The first part of this Rookie Class story explained how the team from Colorado had moved into the position of the top contender throughout the 2009 season and how much tighter the 10-round competition in DeLand actually turned out to be. The team from Skydive City finally won the Rookie Class competition by only four points.

The team in 3rd place, Hot Flash, was also introduced with the NSL News story on 25 November 2009.

Team DiZaster, with Jonathan Bojar (Center Inside), Quinn Lamb (Tail), Tim Neaves (Center Outside), Bonnie Young (Point) and Layson Parks on camera, was one single point ahead after the first two rounds on Friday afternoon.

The four rounds on Saturday all came out to the Z-Hills team's advantage, as well, as DiZaster won each round by one single point.

Relativity was obviously very close all the time, however, the 5-point difference after six rounds gave DiZaster a comfortable cushion. Both teams tied Round 7, and DiZaster added two more points to the lead in Round 8.

The Colorado team fought back in rounds nine and ten and actually won the four rounds on Sunday by one point, but it was too late.

Team DiZaster scores of 2009
The story of the NSL Rookie Class 2009 champion is the story of a battle with the exit and a very consistent progression.

Team DiZaster attended seven of the eight meets in Florida this year, including the NSL Championship 2009. The brandnew team career began at the FSL Shamrock Showdown 2009 where the team from Skydive City competed next to the Arizona Airspeed world champions and made the first competition experiences.

The 5.1 average after ten rounds was heavily influenced by problems with the exits. The 4-way rookies from Z-Hills continued to struggle with the first point of each sequence at the next meets, as well. The second half of the competition jumps usually went well, and DiZaster still posted respectable numbers on the scoreboard. However, there was work ahead to get to a higher scoring level.

The opportunities were rare, as the team did not train much. The best learning opportunities were always the meets of the Florida Skydiving League where coaches, judges and fellow teams and competitiors provided input and advice.

Team DiZaster was not shy to listen to others and to try different ways how to get to the first formation of each sequence better and faster. Eventually, the Rookie Class team decided to apply a few standard exits that all team members could guarantee, and it worked well for the team.

The 10.0 average finally fell at the September meet in Sebastian, and the 11.3 average at the NSL Championship 2009 was based on solid exits and no funnels.

Exit trouble at the beginning of the season
The exit situation and the building of the first formation of each sequence was also the main reason for DiZaster's victory over Relativity after ten rounds. The Colorado team was not behind at all as of individual and team skills and pace.

However, the Florida team built the first formation quicker most of the times and won the meet with the first pages. The DiZaster members were finally glad that they put their efforts into an area that was the weakest point at the beginning of the 2009 season.

Team DiZaster had such a great time this year that the team members have already begun to recruit more and new Rookie Class lineups on their home turf at Skydive City. It will be time for DiZaster to learn the first set of eight blocks for the A Class competition next year. However, they will still forward their own fun experiences to the other potential 4-way rookies of 2010.
