Did You Know...

... that the Photon pieces of Block 11 have to rotate backward?

Arizona Directe on the hill in round two
posted Jul 14th, 2005 - The second round of the Southwest Skydiving League June meet is now featured on NSL-TV. The complete event information of the Malevsky Cup 2005 is still available and can be found either by clicking on the Malevsky Cup logo on the top of the homepage or by navigating to the International league page and the according event date. The video files of the meet jumps are also still available at the special NSL-TV event page.

Round two of the SSL June meet was identical between the AAA and the AA Class (O-Q-G-11). As in previous meets, the SSL top challenger in the AA Class, Arizona Divewerkz, managed once again to outscore several of the teams in the higher competition class with the score of 13 points for round two.

The second team from Arizona, AZ Directe with player coach Gary Beyer and Colorado Skydiving League Director Brian VandeKrol, recovered after a bad exit in round one. A much better start into the jump of the second round was rewarded with the second highest score of 19 points in the AAA Class. Only Perris Fury scored higher with 21 points.

Perris Element with Celeste Campo (Tail), Cass Emery (Outside Center), Marie Harrell (Point), Brianne Thompson (Inside Center) and Bryan Harrell (Video), was unlucky and lost almost the whole first page due to a bad video distance and angle on the hill. Element completed 11 points within working time and ended up with 8 points on the scoreboard.

Elsinore Gravity's round two - see video
Elsinore Gravity with Lou Ascione (Inside Center), Melanie Curtis (Point), Erin Murphy (Outside Center) and Steve Simar (Tail) delivered probably the cleanest performance of this round, including the video quality. Gravity's whole competition in June was also very consistent. The score for round two was 16 points.

Perris Quest was the lucky team of the round. The scoreboard shows that all five points completed in time were counted as scoring points. A closer look at Quest's execution of Block 11 (Photon - Photon) will explain why Quest was lucky to get away with the score of five points.

Perris Quest's round two - see video
The Perris team rotated both pieces forward, while the rules require the pieces to rotate backward. The second Photon of Block 11 would not count as a scoring formation after the incorrect inter, and the correct score would have been four points for this round. However, the unusual block technique remained undetected, and the official score was five points. Hopefully, Perris Quest will not apply the same technique at other meets, it might not slip through next time.

The meet videos of Perris Storm, and the A Class teams Elsinore Anomaly and Perris Endorphins were not available.
