Did You Know...

... that Round 10 ate Airspeed for lunch??

Trip to the boarding area in Eloy
posted Feb 16th, 2010 - The next part of the video clips that feature Arizona Airspeed's Round 10 at the Valentine's Meet 2010 begins where the last one had ended.

The teams have to ride a trailer truck to get to the boarding area at Skydive Arizona, and the NSL News camera joined the teams on the way. Airspeed added another dirtdive to the final preparations and then waited for the jump plane, together with the Dutch/Belgian team 4XTT.

There was another incidence that caused some trouble right before boarding the Twin Otter. Airspeed's Center Inside Andy Delk discovered that he had a serious problem with his bootie. The NSL-TV camera captured the troubling situation, which may have put additional pressure on the world champions.

Airspeed landing after Round 10
The NSL News was setting up next at the landing area and waited for Airspeed's canopy formation landing after Round 10. Of course, it was interesting to capture the first impressions right after the jump.

The team members came up with a very accurate review of the last competition jump. Craig Girard had a funny response when the NSL News asked if Airspeed had eaten Round 10 for Breakfast, as Robert Chromy expected it when discussing the competition draw: "I think it ate us..."

Mark Kirkby admitted that Airspeed did not get to the 20th point and somehow summarized his team's first impressions with his remark. However, Craig Girard said that it could be close before Andy Delk jokingly confirmed that the problems with his bootie probably cost the 20th point. Then he guessed that the score would be a 19-pointer.

Judges at the Valentine's Meet 2010
Craig Girard, Mark Kirkby and Andy Delk were actually right, as the 20th point within working time was only a split second away. It was a 19-pointer, and Craig Girard's missing grip to complete the second Monopod of Block 4 was very close.

However, no Airspeed member recalled or mentioned a penalty situation in Round 10, as the 19-pointer within working time turned into an 18-pointer on the official score sheet. It would have been probably even more painful to have the 20th point within working time and then lose it in the judging room.

Next step for the NSL News was the judging room where the NSL-TV camera captured the official evaluation of Airspeed's Round 10. Then the public DZ-TV screen confirmed the 19 points within working time and the official score of 18 points.

4XTT at the Valentine's Meet 2010
The Valentine's Meet 2010 was over, and so was Airspeed's 20-pointer streak - after a total of 35 consecutive outdoor competition jumps. Thomas Hughes, who was coaching 4XTT in Eloy, then organized a 16-way fun jump with Airspeed, 4XTT and the Dutch team Creeps.

Last NSL News activity at the competition site was a live NSL Talk with all Airspeed members, except team videographer Steve Nowak. This interview will also be uploaded very soon.

There is also the footage of the three other teams, including two local teams, which will be introduced later by the NSL News. Additional information will come from the Netherlands, as Creeps also promised to provide an update.
