Did You Know...

... that each sequence at the Aerokart Indoor Championship begins with a Star?

Aerokart PCs with Sophie Deremaux
posted Feb 26th, 2010 - The NSL News goes back to the Aerokart Indoor Championship 2010, the indoor competition in Paris, France, that recently filled the NSL leaderboard with new scores.

Françoise Simons, Aerokart Deep Blue member who works for the wind tunnel in Paris, provided the NSL News with videos of the competition.

Her team posted impressive scores last weekend, as the NSL News reported on 22 February 2010.

8-way team captain Clément Martin-Saint-Léon, who competed with Aerokart PCs in 4-way, told the NSL News already shortly after the competition that the scores have to be evaluated considering the different "exit" rules. The first featured video of Deep Blue shows what he is talking about.

Star "exit" for each sequence
The working time at the Aerokart competition begins when the teams break the Star, which is the "exit" formation for each round. This is a big advantage compared to other "exit" rules.

The Paraclete Money Meet allows the teams to build the first formation while standing on the net. The working time begins when the feet get off the net.

The Aerokart and Paraclete rules produce about the same scores. The first formation is already complete at Paraclete, while the teams at Aerokart still have to build the first formation of the sequence. The Star doesn't count as a scoring formation.

XL "exit" lineup at the World Challenge 2009
The situation is very different at the World Challenge. Bodyflight used to have two doors at the first indoor meets in Bedford. The teams were allowed to use both of them to enter the flying chamber and build the first formation of the sequence.

However, the working time began as soon as the first flyer entered the chamber. It required some special techniques to build the first formation using two doors.

Last year, the second door was closed for the first time, and all four team members had to use one door. The rules for the working were still the same. The clock started running as soon as the first flyer entered the chamber.

Deep Blue at theAerokart Indoor Championship
It is difficult to say how much time the teams at Aerokart save by already flying in a Star before building the first formation of the sequence. The top teams at the World Challenge have learned to enter the chamber and build the first formation very quickly.

However, the "Star exit" surely is a significant advantage, and it could possibly win a point per round.

The Deep Blue scores at the Aerokart 2010 event are still significantly higher than in 2009, and the same counts for Aerokart PCs.

Both teams have signed up for the World Challenge 2010, and then all teams will apply the same "exit" rules. The NSL News will soon follow up with more videos of the Aerokart Indoor Championship.
