Did You Know...

... that Round 10 featured a Swedish showdown for tickets to Russia?

Bardagi after a training jump in DeLand
posted Jun 7th, 2010 - Scores from Sweden have been added to last weekend's leaderboard. It was only the 2010 season opener, the first meet in Sweden this year, and it was still extremely important, at least for two teams.

The German team Final Four Remscheid is still holding the top spot on the AAA Class leaderboard. However, the regional meet in Germany did not have the same drama that was behind the competition in Sweden.

Bardagi and Blue Spirits are in 2nd and 3rd place now, separated by six points from each other. Those six points have the value of a trip to the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010 in Menzelinsk, Russia.

Swedish national team of 2009: Evolution
The NSL News story on 5 March 2010 had reported that the same two teams were preparing for a new 2010 battle in Sweden, with the goal to represent the Scandinavian country at this year's World Meet.

The NSL News did not know by then that the scores at last weekend's competition would be the decisive factor for the Swedish federation to sanction the national 4-way team, as there is another meet scheduled for the July 3 weekend.

Chief Judge Zeljko Tanaskovic informed the NSL News that Bardagi has already won the ticket to Russia. He added that the conditions were perfect with warm and sunny weather.

TV host Joey Jones at the Shamrock Showdown 2010
The Swedish race to Menzelinsk was over after ten exciting rounds from a Cessna Caravan, and the last round was the final showdown, almost like a jump-off situation.

Bardagi was in the driver's seat for the first four rounds, had won each round and created a comfortable 6-point lead.

However, former DeLand Majik 4-way world champion of 2004, Joey Jones, is one of the most experienced competitors and coaches in the world and did not let his team give up.

He has seen and lived 4-way meets from all angles and knew that a meet is over after ten rounds and not any time earlier. Then came Round 5, and the Swedish 4-way drama began.

Blue Spirits won back two points, and both teams went neck to neck for the following three rounds tying each others' scores sequence by sequence. The scores of Round 9 finally brought the excitement to the peak, as Blue Spirits won another round by two points.

The Bardagi lead was down to two points, and Round 10 brought the fastest sequence of the competition for the final showdown. Everything was open again, and the tickets to Russia were on stake in the last round.

This time, it was Bardagi's turn to keep cool and deliver at the right time, and the new Swedish national 4-way team did just that. The 22-pointer beat Blue Spirits by four points, and the celebration could begin. Bardagi will represent Sweden at the unofficial Scandinavian championship in Russia.
