... that Arizona Airspeed re-visited the Malevsky Cup 2007?

26.0 average at the Malevsky Cup 2007: Arizona Airspeed
posted Jun 8th, 2010 - It's time for a new update from Arizona where the Airspeed 4-way world champions are preparing for the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010 in Menzelinsk, Russia.

The next step of those preparations is the upcoming 4-way competition at Skydive Chicago this weekend, the last meet for Airspeed before the most important competition of the 2010 season.

Craig Girard reported from Arizona that his team recently copied a competition draw in training that was an important milestone in the Airspeed history. It was the Malevsky Cup 2007 where the current Airspeed lineup posted the highest outdoor meet average in the history of Formation Skydiving competition, a 26.0 average after ten rounds.

Craig Girard with Mark Kirkby in Stupino 2007
The NSL News was live on site in Stupino, Russia, when Airspeed came up with this amazing feast. The NSL News found the meet videos in the NSL-TV archives, which can be reviewed once again.

Craig Girard said that his team wanted to see how they would perform with the same draw almost three years later. Airspeed was satisfied with the training results, as it turned out to be a 26.6 average after the same ten rounds.

The competition draw of 2007 included a sequence of only Random Formations (E-Q-D-J-K) where Airspeed scored 41 points in 2007. The world champions from Arizona have been working on the random sequences after the trouble in Round 2 at the World Challenge 2010, as the team confirmed earlier. The NSL News does not have the scores for each round available.

New 2010 Arizona Airspeed T-shirts
Airspeed has also been working on the logistics for this year's trip to Russia in the meantime. Eliana Rodriguez told the NSL News that the Airspeed 2010 T-shirts have been available for a little while and can be ordered by contacting her directly.

The T-shirt is available with short sleeves ($20) and long sleeves ($25) and in different styles for men and women. She added that Airspeed is also preparing a raffle, and the details can be requested directly from her, as well.

The US national teams don't get much financial support, and Airspeed uses those additional projects to raise funds for the trip to the world championships. This week, the Airspeed focus goes back only to the athletic part of Formation Skydiving competition and the meet in Ottawa. France and the United Kingom have their own meets on the same weekend, and the NSL News will provide scores and information.
