Did You Know...

... that Canada's LeMay family team Evolution plans to score the best ever?

Canada's national 4-way team Evolution
posted Jun 28th, 2010 - The NSL News is going back to the Midway Battle where some of the best 4-way teams in the world competed a few weeks ago. The small field of five teams included Arizona Airspeed and the reigning 4-way world champion's top challenger in the USA, Perris Fury. But there was also one team from another country that will meet Airspeed again at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010 very soon: Canada's national 4-way team Evolution.

The NSL News has followed the unique team ever since it was formed with the current lineup after the World Meet 2006 in Germany. The current Evolution lineup consists of one family, father Michel Lemay and his three sons Martin, Vincent and Benoit. Michel Lemay's long-time friend Daniel Paquette has been filming the team.

The 2009 season was a quiet NSL News year for the Canadian family team. Evolution competed only at the World Games 2009 and the Canadian Nationals 2009. The LeMay family took mostly care of its skydiving business at NouvelAir near Montreal and was planning to get busier again in 4-way this year.

The Road to Russia

The 2010 season is already a busier 4-way year for Evolution, as the team has attended two meets, the Dubai Championship 2010 in January and now the Midway Battle. The 23.2 average at the last meet shows that the Lemay family is ready to perform at the World Meet in Menzelinsk, Russia.

Father Michel Lemay recently confirmed that his team plans to peak at the World Meet. Family goal is to "post our best score ever". This means that the team may challenge all other top contenders in Russia. The 23.2 average at Skydive Chicago is a promising foundation, and Evolution will be training more.

The schedule includes three days of training per week at Parachute Montreal, the new NouvelAir skydiving center, until the World Meet. Training will be either jumping, or if the weather is not permitting, flying in the new windtunnel, which is also a part of the family business.

First jump in 1978
Michel Lemay is the longest standing active 4-way competitor in the world. His competitive career began when he won the Canadian Nationals for the first time in 1982. He attended his first international competition in 8-way, the World Cup in 1983.

The NSL News will publish Michel Lemay's unique skydiving profile story very soon. His skydiving career is a very colorful summary of almost all big skydiving events that happened in the 25 years of his competitive time, which is now at its peak.

He made his first jump in 1978 when he was 19 years old. It was obviously no surprise that his three sons all took on skydiving at very early ages, as well. A few paragraphs of the upcoming profile provide an insight of Michel Lemay's passion for the sport.

Dream team in 2007
"On my 10,000th skydive I accomplished one of my dreams. For the first time in my life I was jumping with my three sons. I took Benoit on tandem and Vince and Martin came to join us. What a great and emotional moment it was for me.

At the 2006 World Meet in Germany, I met Shannon Pilcher and discussed the project I had in mind. He jumped on board and became our coach. Shannon has been part of our project since Day One. From 2006 on, Team Evolution became a family affair. The four of us saw great potential in the skill level and we started training together.

In August 2007, we won the Canadian Nationals with a 18.9 average after only 150 training jumps as a new 4-way team. In 2007-2008, the boys took a sabbatical year from school and committed to a full year of training in DeLand, Florida. This is where things changed for us."
