Did You Know...

... that scores from Finland bring back the Road to Russia?

Judge Jukka Olkkonen at the Shamrock Showdown 2008
posted Jul 5th, 2010 - The newest scores of last weekend's events have come from Finland. A total of four teams met in Hanko, the skydiving center of the biggest Parachute Club in Finland, the home of the skydivers who live in the capitol city Helsinki.

Meet Director and Event Judge Jukka Olkkonen reported that he had a perfect meet environment this time. He said that a few more teams could have been accommodated if he had more videographers.

However, he was glad to see a good number of teams and individuals showing their interest. The Hanko Skydiving Center was so busy due to the perfect weather that it became difficult to get every skydiver in the air. The teams were limited to a maximum of three rounds after all.

The Road to Russia

The field of teams did not include Finland's national team, the Pro Team. The NSL News story on 3 May 2010 had explained that the Pro Team is in the middle of the final preparations for the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010.

The travel distance between the team's home town Rovaniemi and the Hanko Skydiving Center is approx. 870 km (540 miles), which would take the team approx. 13 hours to get to the event site. The Pro Team has to make the trip south very soon anyway, as it plans to compete at the national championship before traveling to Menzelinsk in Russia.

The scores at the upcoming Finish Nationals 2010 will indicate what to expect from the Pro Team at the World Meet 2010 in Russia. The story on 3 May 2010 mentioned the other contenders for the unofficial Scandinavian Championship (Bodyflight Voluntas from Denmark, X3M4S from Norway, Bardagi from Sweden) and also the race for the unofficial title of the amateur world champion.

Preparing for the World Meet 2010: Pto Team
Voluntas has posted a 20.6 average in a 5-round meet since the Pro Team update was posted. Dynamic Fource, Netherlands top contender for the amateur title, followed up with a 20.6 average at the Tomscat Trophy after five different rounds. Now it will be time for the Pro Team to impress the competition.

Finland's national team showed the potential to be a top contender in both unofficial races within the World Meet at the World Challenge 2010. The Pro Team beat Voluntas easily (23.3 - 21.3) and was right behind Dynamic Fource (23.6 - 23.2) at the indoor competition.

The Pro Team also announced a very well defined training plan between the World Challenge 2010 and the World Meet in Russia. The scores from Denmark and the Netherlands were surely impressive. However, the Pro Team will most likely follow up with its own impressive numbers. Finland's national championship will begin next week.
