Did You Know...

... that 4-way and soccer competition did not collide in the Netherlands?

AAA class winner from the United Kingdom: Sonicnutz
posted Jul 12th, 2010 - The newest leaderboard was updated throughout the weekend, as the scores from the United Kingdom and the Netherlands were posted round by round. The scores of the Midwest Skydiving League have been added, and only the teams from the Northern Plains are still missing.

The UK teams are sweeping the leaderboard so far. There is not even one team on the front page that competed at a different event. The overview on the front page shows only the teams in the first three places of each competition class.

Teams competed in all four competition classes, and the 12 teams on the front page are all from the United Kingdom. That's a real sweep. The Rookie Class had once again the biggest participation overall, which speaks for the future of 4-way competition.

Dutch national soccer team
Teams from the Netherlands had the next opportunity to post new scores after the most popular Dutch 4-way competition, the Tomscat Trophy, brought together a total of 22 teams on June 19. Four teams came back, and two new Rookie Class lineups joined the Dutch League 2010.

There was no conflict situation with the FIFA World Cup Soccer this time, even though the Dutch soccer team had made it into the final game of the tournament. The Dutch skydiving teams competed on Saturday, while the soccer match was scheduled for Sunday.

The time difference between South Africa and the Netherlands made it even easier, as the game would be shown live on TV in the evening. The 4-way teams would long be done and back home at that time.

Awards at the popular Tomscat Trophy
Dutch League manager Gerhard Schut reported from the Netherlands that the temperatures reached well over 30 degrees (celsius) on Saturday. The six teams still managed to complete five rounds. There was only one rejump due to camera problems, and another team had a short delay after a reserve ride.

Gerhard Schut said that the participation was lower at this meet since the ESL Championship 2010 brings an additional meet to the Netherlands this year: "The teams seem to be saving their money to be able to take part and hence chose to skip last weekend's Dutch League competition."

The participating teams were all well known from previous meets, as most of them were present at this year's Tomscat Trophy last month. However, there were a few new teams in the Rookie Class, and Gerhard Schut introduced them:

Original Tiramisu lineup in 2005
"Tiramisu is an old name with a new composition. Only one member was in the original lineup. Another new team is BellyCReW. This is a pickup team with two CRW jumpers joining up with two belly flyers. With some difficulties in the first rounds, their last jump showed that they can pick up points in freefall with some training, as well as under canopy."

He added that the teams jumped the last round on Sunday and finished before the temperatures were rising once again well above 30 degrees. The awards ceremony was concluded at 1:00 PM and the Dutch League could look back at a small but succesful competition.

Gerhard Schut said that the meet was smoothly accomodated by a very professional Teuge Skydiving Center. The ESL Championship 2010 will be hosted by the Texel Skydiving Center on the September 11 weekend.
