Did You Know...

... that Team Adrenalin took the A Class record scores from UK team Full Stop?

Italian A Class champion: Team Adrenalin
posted Sep 4th, 2010 - The NSL News covered the Italian Nationals 2010 with the story on 27 August 2010. The focus was mostly on Italy's national 4-way team Sinapsi, especially on Luca Marchioro and Livio Piccolo who won their 10th national title this year.

However, there was another very special aspect of the the Italian Nationals 2010. This time, the NSL News focuses on the Italian A Class competition where the new national champion, Team Adrenalin, set a new scoring record for this category.

Vincenzo Francesconi, Fabio Munaretto, Guido Pozzoli, Alessandro Raniolo, with Andrea Silvotti on camera, posted a very impressive 16.2 average for the 10-round meet. The scores included a 31-pointer in Round 9 (F - B - J). Both numbers are the highest ones in the history of the NSL Network's A Class competition.

Bronze medals at the Italian Nationals 2008
The NSL News was surely interested who is behind those record numbers, and Team Adrenalin provided some team information.

Team captain Guido Pozzoli started jumping in June 2007. He said that he was bored after the first 80 jumps "rolling out of an airplane without any skills". He had to choose between Freeflying and 4-way. Luca Stanga, one of Italy's 8-way bronze medalists of 2008, helped him with this decision. He suggested to form a team, while Guido Pozzoli asked him to be the coach.

Guido Pozzoli found his team mates soon and founded Team Adrenalin early in 2008. Goal was to attend the Italian Nationals 2008. Team Adrenalin started with the team training and competed at the national championships after four months. The 8.3 average in 2008 won the bronze medals, as two higher scoring teams were not eligible. Guido Pozzoli remembered that his team was still very excited: "It was an incredible moment for us, because without any big experience we could reach at least the podium."

Team Adrenalin flies a Murphy Flake
Team Adrenalin attended a few other meets in Italy before two accidents in 2008 and 2009 required personnel changes. One of these accidents happened to team captain Guido Pozzoli, just seven days before the start of the Italian Nationals 2009. He broke two vertebras and the right foot, and Team Adrenalin canceled the event participation. The future of the team was also uncertain.

The other Adrenalin members decided to wait for Guido Pozzoli's recovery and to not compete with anybody else. The Adrenalin career eventually continued in May 2010, still under Luca Stanga's supervision.

Guido Pozzoli said that the results at the Italian Nationals 2010 were not a big surprise, as his team had been performing on this level in training. However, a competition is different, and the pressure was on. Team Adrenalin mastered the meet stress with excellence, including team videographer Andrea Silvotti who won the award for the best camera of the meet.

Previous A Class record holder: Full Stop
Guido Pozzoli (Center Outside) has a total of approx. 500 jumps. His center partner in the control slot, Munaretto Fabio, has approx. 1,100 jumps. Tail Francesconi Vincenzo is at 800 jumps, and Point Raniolo Francesco at 250. Videographer Silvotti Andrea has approx. 1,000 jumps.

The Adrenalin members don't know yet what the team will do in the near future. However, Guido Pozzoli is pretty sure that they will continue with plans for the AAA Class. The next competition might be the World Challenge 2011 at Bodyflight Bedford if things work out well. The Italian Nationals 2011 and a few NSL meets in Europe would be on the agenda for 2011, as well.

By the way, the previous record average in the A Class was only a few months old. UK team Full Stop had posted a 15.4 average after the eight rounds of the UK Nationals 2010. The highest score for a single round was the 25-pointer in Round 6 (O - D - M).
