Did You Know...

... that teams are on a wind hold at the USPA Nationals 2010?

Rain in the morning, wind hold in the afternoon
posted Sep 11th, 2010 - It came as it had to be expected. The weather system passed through, and the clear skies allowed for a few competition rounds. But then the winds on the back side of the front picked up, and the meet management had to put the teams on a wind hold.

That was not a bad situation since the judges have a chance to catch up. It was a really fast pace for the teams to complete the first two rounds. There was not much time for a rest between the jumps. The new competition jump had to be prepared quickly, as the next boarding call would come very soon.

Two rounds have been completed in all three competition classes, and a few teams have done their third round. The teams will be back on a call as soon as the winds calm down a bit in the evening.

Arizona Airspeed with a 1-point lead after Round 2
There are no big surprises so far, neither in the Open Class nor in the Advanced Class competition. The slow sequences of the first two rounds keep the field together. Perris Fury stays close to Arizona Airspeed, while the competition for the bronze medals between Paraclete XP4, Golden Knights Gold and SDC Rhythm XP is in full swing, as well.

Perris Fury lost a point in Round 1, and Airspeed gave one back in Round 2. XP4 lost a point in Round 1, as well, and is keeping the distance to the Rhythm challenger so far. The former Spaceland Force lineup is not competing, and Thomas Hughes is filling a slot for the Speedy Kids.

The competition is very tight in the Advanced Class where nine of the 14 teams seem to be in contention for medals. Four points separate the team in 9th place from the top of the leaderboard after two rounds. Carolina Turbo XP is leading the group of expected medal contenders by one point. Air Force team Impulse dominates the Intermediate Class field as clearly as Turbo, formerly VTSD, did last year.
