Did You Know...

... that France continues with a new national coach and three 4-way gold medalists?

Jérôme David (bottom right) with his triple gold teams in Menzelinsk
posted Oct 21st, 2010 - Things have quietly moved on in France, while the top team scramble was in the works in the USA. The changes in France are just as significant as recently in the USA. However, the French federation is coordinating those changes, while the free forces of the 4-way market provide the US results.

That's probably the reason why the changes in France have not created the same waves as they now do between Florida and Arizona. The NSL News will soon continue with more background information of the new Arizona Airspeed lineup, but first it is time to catch up with developments in France.

Jérôme David, himself a 4-way world champion of 1991 and 1993, completed his job as the French national coach of the past 16 years with the first French sweep at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010, where his national teams won the gold medals in all three Formation Skydiving events.

Achieving this demanding goal was a good reason for him to retire, and his successor was prepared to take over. The NSL News will soon update Jérôme David's NSL Profile, which is a colorful story of an exciting and successful career as a Formation Skydiving competitor.

Jérôme David will continue to work for the French federation in a different position, and the new national Formation Skydiving coach is also a very successful competitor. In fact, Jeremie Rollett just helped Jérôme David to complete the French triple gold feast, as he is now a former member of Aerodyne Cypres Maubeuge's 4-way lineup.

He accepted the job as the new national coach after winning two 8-way gold medals in 2006 and 2008, 4-way silver in 2008 and gold in 2010. He also has an 8-way bronze medal of 2004 in his collection. Jeremie Rollett obviously knows enough about Formation Skydiving competition to qualify for the job.

The new French national coach has already made his first decisions. The 4-way lineup for the 2011 season is set up and has completed the first training camp in September. The Bernier brothers Guillaume and Mathieu continue with Julien Degen and Olivier Henaff on camera after winning their first 4-way gold medals this year.

8-way gold medalist of 2006 and 2008, this year's 8-way alternate, Emmanuel "Manu" Sarrazin, is eager to win his own 4-way gold medal and is filling the open slot in the center. Jeremie Rollett added that the lineups of the new 8-way team and the female 4-way team have not been finalized yet.

Manu Sarrazin is not new to 4-way competition at all. In fact, he has focused on 4-way ever since he retired from the 8-way team. He attended several meets in 4-way in the last three years as a player coach for the strongest of the French national B-Teams, Aerokart PCs. The PCs, with three members of the French 8-way world champions had their best performance at the World Challenge 2010 where they finished in 6th place with a 29.4 average.

Manu Sarrazin and his Aerokart PCs were not far behind the best 4-way experts in the world in Bedford, including the French 4-way world champions. He is obviously very well prepared to fill the slot in the national 4-way team.

He has been guiding B-Team members in 4-way for several years, together with 3-time 8-way world champion Clement Martin-Saint-Leon, and has trained and competed with the Aerokart PCs since 2008. He had double duties in 4-way and 8-way in 2007 and 2008 before he could eventually focus on his new favorite event, 4-way competition.

It was not easy for him to get enough of it since his other three 4-way team mates (Clement Martin-Saint-Leon, Arnaud Mille, Julien Olek) were members of the new 8-way lineup and had to give priority to defending the French 8-way gold medals.

His 4-way B-Team lineup, Aerokart Mamba Pamiers in 2008, Aerokart Pamiers Maubeuge in 2009 and Aerokart PCs in 2010 still managed to squeeze in a few 4-way jumps and meets here and there and whenever his 4-way team mates were available.

Most of those meets were indoor competitions where the French national 8-way team with his 4-way team mates could not participate. He was also still the official alternate for the French 8-way team and had to fill in quite a few times.

Now he will get enough 4-way training and competition. National coach Jeremie Rollett said that the French 4-way team has plans for 600 training jumps until the World Cup 2011 in Germany. The team will also add indoor training in the winter. It will be interesting to see when and where the new Airspeed lineup and the new French national 4-way team will meet each other for the first time.
