Did You Know...

... that Perris Fury is again looking for a future world champion?

Perris Fury of 2005 with Dan BC
posted Nov 2nd, 2010 - The new Arizona Airspeed lineup has been looked at from several different angles, and a new live NSL Talk with Solly Williams will soon add more thoughts to the new situation in the USA.

It has been quiet around Perris Fury since Airspeed announced that Fury's original Point, Josh Hall, would move from California to Arizona.

However, it is a fact that Perris Fury will continue. Chris Farina confirmed for the NSL News that his team is actively looking for a new team member.

It was in September 2005 when the NSL News had a very similar headline for the story on September 17 (Archive > 2005 > News > Search for: "Perris Fury"): "Did you know that Perris Fury is looking for a future world champion?"

It was a big goal that Perris Fury had set by then, the biggest one in Formation Skydiving competition. The three original members of 2005, Christy Frikken, Josh Hall and Uli Stuewe, wanted to become 4-way world champions, and they were looking for a 4th member with the same goal.

They found Chris Farina soon. Christy Frikken informed the NSL News in February 2006 that Fury welcomed the "highly motivated 4-way maniac" to the first complete and original lineup. The pursuit of the big goal began.

NSL-TV found competition videos of Fury's attendance at the September meet of the Southwest Skydiving League. It was the end of the first regular season with the complete lineup and a great test for Fury's first USPA Nationals with this lineup. Elsinore Gravity gave Fury a great run for the SSL money, including a jump-off that ended up tied as well.

Perris Fury in August 2010
Five years later, Perris Fury is in a very similar situation. However, there is a big difference, as the team has come very close to the original goal. Fury has systematically worked the team's way up to the top year by year and has become one of the best teams in the world.

In fact, Fury was as close as never before to make the first step by winning the USPA Nationals next year and then compete for the gold medals at the World Meet in 2012. The Airspeed lineup of the past four years disbanded, and the door seemed to be wide open for this year's silver medalists at the USPA Nationals.

Then Josh Hall decided to accept the Airspeed offer, and the three remaining Perris Fury members found themselves in the same situation as in 2005. They are now looking once again for a future world champion.

Perris Fury's impressive scoring progression
Christy Frikken, Uli Stuewe and Chris Farina are looking back at an amazing and impressive team career. The self-made team started from scratch, in fact with a 16.0 average at the March meet of the Southwest Skydiving League 2005. Dan BC was the player coach in the Center Inside slot.

The 24.1 average at the USPA Nationals 2010 was not enough to beat Arizona Airspeed's leaving lineup of 2007 - 2010. It was still another world class performance that would have put Fury in striking distance for the 3rd place at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010.

Getting to the very top level in the world is a great achievement, but it also makes it more difficult for a team to find adequate replacements. It is an extremely important and challenging task now for Fury to find a new team member, as the main goal seems to be so much in reach. The NSL News will surely follow up as soon as Perris Fury has new information.
