Did You Know...

... that GT Wreckless won silver at the USPA Collegiates 2010?

GT Wreckless at the NSL Championship 2010
posted Jan 1st, 2011 - The scores of the USPA Collegiates 2009 were actually posted in 2010 on the NSL website last year. This time, the scores of the same event are really the last ones of the 2010 season - indoor or outdoor.

Only a total of eight teams made the trip to Skydive Arizona, compared to 14 teams last year. Six of the eight teams are lineups of the military schools, the other two lineups are civilian ones.

One of the two civilian teams did really well in the contest with the well trained and fully covered military lineups and deserves additional respect for the performance in Arizona. GT Wreckless finished in second place with a 13.8 average after six rounds.

Work before celebration: GT Wreckless in DeLand
GT Wreckless was well prepared after testing the competition waters and the complete A Class dive pool by competing at the NSL Championship 2010. The 13.8 average after the six rounds in Arizona was significantly higher compared to the 10-round meet in November and won the silver medals in the Advanced Class.

Six teams competed in the Advanced Class, two in the Open Class. The USPA rules for the Collegiates do not specify the qualification for each category, and the competition rules and sequences are the same, which is similar to the rules for the USPA Nationals in Advanced and Open Class.

However, all teams seemed to have signed up for the category where they would expect to find the best competition, as the dive pools were identical.

USPA Collegiates 2009 winner - AAA Class team in 2010: Carolina Turbo XP
The two Air Force teams in the Open Class had won gold and bronze medals in the AA/Intermediate Class at the USPA Nationals 2010. It was no surprise that they happened to compete alone in the Open Class.

In fact, they were probably not challenged too much with the A Class sequences, and the scores showed that they had a walk in the park. It was even easier since the rules for the USPA Collegiates also have the Star as the exit formation for each competition jump and a start of the working time after five seconds or the break of the exit Star.

However, Impulse and Eminence still had a great race between themselves, and Eminence was much closer to their fellow Air Force cadets compared to the competition at the USPA Nationals 2010. Hopefully, the members of the military lineups will have the same motivation to continue with 4-way competition and facing the challenges of the AAA/Open Class dive pool as the Collegiates 2009 winner, VTSD, showed. The VTSD members moved up in 2010, trained and competed under Carolina Turbo XP and won the AAA/Advanced Class competition at the USPA Nationals 2010.
