Did You Know...

... that NSL-TV presents Block 13 from the judging perspective?

Poll results match the new US reality
posted Feb 7th, 2011 - It's all been said and done, and most importantly shown, at the Paraclete XP Indoor Skydiving Championships 2011. Arizona Airspeed is as strong as most people expected the new lineup to be. It would be a surprise if the polls changed between now and the USPA Nationals 2011.

Paraclete XP4 finished in 2nd place, as the audience forecasted at the time of the meet. Perris Fury was not in 3rd place, and the Golden Knights took that slot. However, Fury's performance does not really count, as last year's USPA silver medalist competed with alternate John Hamilton in the Tail slot.

Christy Frikken was not discouraged at all in Raeford. She had a good point: "This is a very long season..." That's true, the teams have almost six more weeks to get ready for the USPA Nationals than last year. This will surely be to the advantage of a team that has to catch up.

Christy Frikken: "It's a long season..."
Airspeed delivered a great performance at the right time. The success in Raeford will add confidence to a team that is already in a great position at the moment. Airspeed may need a lot of confidence and energy since the upcoming task at the Valentine's Meet 2011 might be the more challenging one.

The reigning 4-way world champions from France are next on the Airspeed list of formidable opponents. The indoor scores of last weekend are good ones, but they are still not even close to the best ones in this category. The 28.8 average is only tied in 10th place of all indoor meet averages.

NMP-PCH Hayabusa has the highest average so far, with a 32.9 average after seven rounds at the ISR Grand Prix 2010. Six teams scored higher than 28.8 after ten rounds at the World Challenge 2010. Airspeed's previous lineup posted 28.8 and 28.9 in 2009, and Perris Fury won the Paraclete XP Indoor Championships 2009 with a 29.8 average.

Highest meet average in history: NMP-PCH Hayabusa
Host Tim D'Annunzio made a good point when he commented during the award ceremony that the 28.8 average was probably the highest meet average without a sequence of only random formations. Hayabusa's 32.9 average over only seven rounds had a limited dive pool for the 14-foot chamber. The high averages at the World Challenge 2010 were supported by a very fast sequence.

However, neither Perris Fury's 29.8 average in 2009 nor Hayabusa's 7-round average had a sequence of only random formations in the competition draw. It is subject to speculation whether Airspeed's 28.8 average last weekend matches the performance level at the mentioned events or not.

There will be not much room for speculation after the upcoming competition in Eloy. The new French lineup will post hard numbers, which will compare clearly and directly with Airspeed at the same time and the same place. The same counts for NMP-PCH Hayabusa after the Shamrock Showdown 2011.

Block 13: Offset - Spinner
The NSL News begins the aftermath of the Paraclete XP Indoor Championships 2011 out of order, due to the relevance of the new Block 13 (Offset - Spinner). This new maneuver came with the sequence of Round 6 (8,4,13) and NSL-TV now features the judging videos.

The eye level perspective of the same round and the same teams was offered during the live coverage on 5 February 2011. Teams and competitors now have the opportunity to see how the best US teams decided to perform the new techniques.

It will not be easy to find out which technique is the better and faster one. However, the audience can at least decide which one looks the best at this point in time. Three of the Top 6 teams rotated the center piece backwards, the other three forwards.
