Did You Know...

... that Elsinore launched a new 4-way season in Southern California and the Czech Republic a new windtunnel?

Perris Jimani at the World Challenge 2011
posted Apr 8th, 2011 - The season opener of the Southern California Skydiving League was scheduled much earlier this year and went by almost unnoticed. That's not a big surprise since last weekend's full attention was focused on the World Challenge 2011.

Three teams competed at Skydive Elsinore and squeezed their names into the huge leaderboard of the biggest indoor competition in the world. All three teams can be found on the AA Class leaderboard or at the SCSL homepage.

There is actually a fourth team from California on the same leaderboard. The NSL News reported earlier that Perris Jimani made the trip to Bedford. Perris Fury member Chris Farina was competing and coaching Jimani, as his own team could not attend the meet this year. The SCSL teams ended up at the bottom of the leaderboard, while Jimani competed on the top. It is not fair to compare the scores directly since indoor scores are always significantly higher than outdoor scores. However, the teams applied the same competition draw. The NSL News will follow up on the AA Class competition in Bedford later.

The NSL News also reported in December last year that Jan Klapka, founder of the Czech Republic Skydiving League, would soon open a new windtunnel in Prague. He said that Sportflight's "Skydive Arena" would open its doors for team training in March. This would give the Czech teams enough time to get ready for the first league competition this year in May.

Jan Klapka now informed the NSL News that the new tunnel in Prague will open its doors officially on May 1st, and he invited the skydiving community:

"Let me invite You and Your friends to our facility to try the best windtunnel in the world. We are offering special conditions for the first visitors at Sportflight throughout the month of May."

The tunnel is obviously already running, and the Czech teams still have four weeks to use it for training.

The first Czech outdoor competition is scheduled for May 28 in Prostejov, host of the World Cup 2009 and the CYPRES 20-year Anniversary Boogie at the end of July.

The 2011 season of the Czech Republic Skydiving League will offer all four NSL competition classes, and the Czech teams now have the indoor opportunity to get familiar early enough with their specific dive pools and new block techniques.

Jan Klapka thinks that there is a good chance to see three Czech teams in each of the four competition classes this year, which would be a new participation record for the Czech Republic.
