Did You Know...

... that 3-under-par did not win the Wounded Warrior competition?

CPS demo jumper Fred Williams pays attention to the national anthem
posted Apr 20th, 2011 - Another event took place last weekend in DeLand, while BJ Worth and his 184 big-way fans Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, Peru, Republic of China, Russia, South Africa, Switzerland, UK, Ukraine, Uruguay, USA, Venezuela successfully completed the Flight of the Phoenix.

The Wounded Warrior Project on the same weekend included a golfing tournament, which was hosted by CPS (Complete Parachute Systems), the manufacturer that has combined the resources of three of the industry leaders (Performance Designs, Sun Path and United Parachute Technologies) to service primarily the military market.

The skydiving industry participated in the golfing tournament and sent a few 4-way teams to the Pelican Bay North Course. The NSL News followed the UPT (United Parachute Technology) team on its way to a 3-under-par performance.

The event was even directly connected to the Flight of the Phoenix at Skydive DeLand. The golfing tournament was launched with a skydiving demonstration on the driving range. One of the six Twin Otters in DeLand dropped four demo jumpers in Daytona Beach before loading up with big-way fans.

The Wounded Warrior golfing tournament took place on Saturday, which was the time when the big-way fans were still working on the shape of the Phoenix. The UPT team of golfing fans included former 4-way and 8-way competitors. Edward "Bushman" Anderson (DeLand PD Gold) and Dave Ruffel (Z-Teams, British 8-way) had Mark Procos and the NSL News reporter in the lineup.

The 3-under-par performance did not win the tournament, however, the skydiving industry and community was well represented to the general public.
