Did You Know...

... that the Vol:Danez will challenge Bodyflight Voluntas this year?

1st Place at Danish Nationals 2009: DaneZ Reunion
posted May 20th, 2011 - An interesting situation develops in Denmark. A new lineup with former members of different national teams have joined forces to compete at the national championships this year.

It is not new that teams and competitors who are not too serious any longer get together to attend meets here and there. Especially the Scandinavian countries Denmark and Norway have a tradition for such kind of reunions. The DeLand Norgies are probably the most famous example for that.

The DaneZ, Demark's national team between 2003 and 2006, have done this quite a few times at the national championships, as well. In fact, the DaneZ even won the gold medals at the 2009 reunion (17.4 - 16.8) over the national team Voluntas.

Voluntas lineup of 2009
Two of the 2009 DaneZ, Jesper Rasmussen and Jess Römer, will now compete together with two former Voluntas members, Kasper Brandt-Svanekier and Brian Gregersen at this year's national championships.

The same two Danez were also in the lineup that competed for Denmark at the World Meet 2006 in Germany and finished in 8th place with an 18.0 average. There were no DaneZ at the Danish Nationals 2010, and the hibernation was probably too long for Jesper Rasmussen and Jess Römer.

This lineup is strong and creates a very competitive situation in Denmark. The new Bodyflight Voluntas lineup is still in the building phase and will be seriously challenged for the top position this year.

Bodyflight Voluntas at the World Meet 2010 in Menzelinsk
Only one Voluntas member of 2010 is back this year, and Point Flemming Borup Andersen also shares his 4-way time with the Perris Blitz team in California. The three new members, Peter Andreas Andersen (Center Outside), Ulrik Høgsberg (Tail) and Martin Søeby Mikkelsen (Center Inside) are still on their way up to the previous Voluntas performance and scoring level.

Voluntas of 2009 and 2010 (Flemming Borop Andersen, Kasper Brandt-Svanekier, Kenneth Gajda, Brian Gregersen) had brought up the Danish scoring level to a 19.0 average at the World Meet 2010 in Menzelinsk.

The Voluntas 2010 lineup finished in 11th place and just missed the semifinals after a great 8-round battle with the national team from Finland, the Pro Team. It was the highest outdoor meet average for a team from Denmark.

Bodyflight Voluntas at the Shamrock Showdown 2011
A complete shakeup of Denmark's three national teams followed at the end of the 2010 season, and project leader Flemming Borup Andersen was facing a fresh start, together with project coach Solly Williams.

Bodyflight Voluntas competed with the new lineup at the Shamrock Showdown 2011 (15.3) and then at the World Challenge 2011.

New Voluntas member and Center Outside Peter Andreas Andersen has his own history with the DaneZ. He was in the DaneZ lineup that beat Voluntas at the Danish Nationals 2009. His is now team mate with Voluntas member Flemming Borup Andersen who tried to hold back the DaneZ that year.

DaneZ at the World Meet 2004 in Croatia
Peter Andreas Andersen's DaneZ team mates of 2009, Jesper Rasmussen and Jess Römer, will now try to defeat his new team, Denmark's official national 4-way lineup of Bodyflight Voluntas.

Current Voluntas Point Flemming Borup Andersen is in the same boat with his piece partner in the Center Outside slot. His team mates of 2009 and 2010, Kasper Brandt-Svanekier and Brian Gregersen, have joined forces with the two DaneZ in the pursuit of this year's top spot in Denmark.

Denmark's national championhips are scheduled for July 18 - 21 at Vestjyllands Flyveplads. The NSL News will keep an eye on this interesting development in Denmark's 4-way community.
