Did You Know...

... that the Cross Keys Rookies are ready to come back for more?

Meet activities at Skydive Miami in Homestead
posted May 23rd, 2011 - The small May meet of the Florida Skydiving League at Skydive Miami produced great content for a few updates from Homestead, and it was only one part of last weekend's first multi-event weekend this year.

Three other meets were scheduled for the same weekend, and new scores have been added to the leaderboard. Five teams attended the May meey of the MidAtlantic Skydiving League at Cross Keys. Three A Class teams posted scores in Virginia, and the results from Start Skydiving, host of the Mideast Skydiving League meets, will be added later.

MASL Director Dennis Miller reported a successful event from Cross Keys. He said that perfect weather lasted just long enough to complete the last round with no time to spare: "The last load of the meet made it to barely to over 8,000 feet with 34 seconds of scoring time before breakoff. We couldn't have ordered a closer finish..."

Aerodyne President Bill Legard - recreational 4-way competitor
One pickup team competed in the AA Class and consisted of a group of experienced recreational jumpers who wanted to have some 4-way fun. Aerodyne Research President Bill Legard was one of the Been A While players and competed in the Center Outside position.

The four new Rookie Class lineups had mostly team members with less than 100 jumps. Three of the four teams had one more experienced player in the Center Outside slot who provided the guidance for the new 4-way experience.

Former Air Pollution member Rob Fields coached his Fly Gurlz to the 1st place in the Rookie Class. He had MariaElena Rodriguez in his lineup who was introduced by the NSL News last year. The new "4-way junkie" has come back from a dirt bike injury and competed in the Center Inside slot. Cross Keys employee Andrea Lisi was the Fly Gurlz Point, and Lauren Donath had the Tail position.

Dennis Miller also reported that the Team Leftovers collected more points than the leaderboard shows. They tried to score too fast, he said, and the multiple infringements did not escape the keen eyes of Neal Beverly, former Golden Knight and current USPA Judge. The Leftovers, with Art Gilman guiding the team in the Center Outside slot, had to settle for the bronze medal.

Forever Young was the only Rookie Class lineup with only novice members. The new team had to deal with additional challenges right from the beginning. Art Leroy, new to 4-way competition, had a cutaway in Round 1 and was unable to continue. Two substitutes, one of them with less than 50 jumps total, stepped up to join the competition and helped to put up a good team effort.

Dennis Miller said that the Rookie Class participants had a great time and are ready for more: "We hear from just about all the Rookie Class competitors that they had a great time and will return in June to put forward their bids for the next gold medals."
