Did You Know...

... that Eclipse is the most improved UK team after last weekend?

Swedish TEAM of the MEET: CADO
posted Jun 16th, 2011 - The new meet weekend is around the corner, including the major event in the Netherlands, the annual Tomscat Trophy. The NSL News has one more topic to wrap up last weekend's events before new scores will be posted in a few days.

The story on 14 June 2011 announed the SDC Furies XP as the TEAM of the WEEKEND "even though the teams from the United Kingdom and Sweden have their own progression, as well, and some of the UK teams did really well compared to their previous results. The NSL News will take a closer look at those teams and the results later on".

It is not really possible to compare the scoring progression directly, unless all teams on the leaderboard have attended the same meets in the same competition classes. However, Arizona Airspeed, SDC Rhythm XP and SDC Furies XP did exactly that, and the two Swedish teams Bardagi and CADO also attended the same two meets in the AAA Class competition. CADO ended up closer to the team's meet average at the International Bunny Meet than Bardagi and won the title of the most improved Swedish team.

The British teams have more opportunities to compare their scoring progression directly. Nine teams attended both meets of the United Kingdom Skydiving League this year. The US teams and the UK teams had a competition draw last weekend that was faster than their previous ones. The two Swedish teams were not in the same situation since the draw at the International Bunny Meet was the faster one, and they had to accept lower scores last weekend.

All nine UK teams took either full advantage of the faster draw or improved the performance to post higher scores than in May. Eclipse had won the May meet by one single point, now increased the scoring average by 6% and the distance to Gr4ity to three points last weekend. Nothing changed between Gr4ity and Kryos Airkix.

The ranking order of the A Class teams at the May meet remained unchanged, as well. However, all teams scores significantly higher last weekend compared to June. Both Royal Air Force teams moved an inch closer to the teams ahead of them, which brought the field closer together.

RAFSPA Typhoon and Raykipo were separated by 11 points in May after six rounds and by 10 points last weekend. It will be interesting to see which UK team will break the 10-average mark first in the A Class. Eclipse got this out of the way in the AA Class last weekend.

Finally, two British Rookie Class teams came back and attended their second meet of the season in Langar. Both topped the numbers of the most improved A Class and AA Class teams. The third RAFSPA team, Hurricane, won the Rookie Class competition after a 2nd place at the May meet.

The scoring improvement of 23% was still not the top number. The Kamikaze Satsumas upped their meet average by 26% and collected more points after five rounds last weekend than they had after six rounds in May. Both Rookie Class teams also posted new highscores for a single round, Hurricane with a 9-pointer in the last round (K-O-F) and Kamikaze Satsumas with a 6-pointer in Round 3 (M-D-J).

The title of the most improved team in the United Kingdom after last weekend goes to Eclipse, due to fact that the team moved up from the A Class last year and now broke the 10-average mark in the AA Class. The next UKSL meet is scheduled for July 16 in Hibaldstow. The UK Nationals 2011 conclude the season on the August 13 weekend.
