The same two teams that competed on the NSL Playoffs 2005 weekend in Colorado traveled to Perris, California, shortly afterwards and competed in the AA/Intermediate Class of the USPA Nationals 2005. Following is a copy of the August meet story, then the NSL News takes a look at the COSL teams in Perris.
The Colorado Skydiving League had scheduled a Scrambles/Rookie Class meet for Saturday, August 20, which had to be canceled due to of a lack of aircraft and a surplus of tandems on meet day at the Mile-Hi Skydiving Center. COSL Director Brian Vande Krol almost canceled the AA Class meet on Sunday, as well. However, the Air Force teams were counting on one last meet before the USPA Nationals and were still hoping for the green light for the competition.
AF Prodigy competed with the original line-up for the first time in a COSL meet this year. The team's outside center had been out for most of the season after a shoulder surgery. Despite the late start of the season for this line-up Prodigy had a good meet and was even able to beat LOC in one round. The 8.2 average in August fit to the progression of the team throughout the 2005 season (8.8 - 8.4 - 5.5 - 7.8 - 8.2) considering the injury situation.
Thanks to Courtney Frasch for judging the meet, and to Mile-Hi for providing the lift, also to Sarah for her excellence at manifest. Good luck to all Colorado 4-way teams as they head to the USPA Nationals next week. Brian Vande Krol, Arizona Directe
Both teams posted the highest meet averages of the 2005 season at the 10-round meet in Perris. Prodigy finished with the record average after a rocky season (8.8 - 8.4 - 5.5 - 7.8 - 8.2 - 11.4), while LOC peaked after a consistent progression throughout the year (8.7 - 9.7 - 9.7 - 11.0). One of the Air Force teams might compete again at SkyQuest 2005. The Air Force line-up already won the NSL Championship once in 2003.
COSL Director Brian Vande Krol and COSL Judge Courtney Frasch both competed at the USPA Nationals, as well. Their player coach and former Airspeed 8-way world champion Gary Beyer guided Arizona Directe to a 14.2 average and the 13th place of the AAA/Open Class.
