Did You Know...

... that Perris Fury is looking for a future world champion?

Perris Fury at the Southwest Skydiving League
posted Sep 17th, 2005 - The 2005 season has not even been completed yet, and the planning for the 2006 season is already on the way for many teams. Some leagues still have meets of the regular season to come, and the NSL Championship at SkyQuest 2005 will be the last Formation Skydiving competition this year.

However, it is always beneficial for teams to begin with planning and preparing for the next season as soon as possible. Perris Fury seems to be one of the earliest starters, and there is a good reason for this: the team has big plans for the 2006 season.

Team member Christy Frikken recently updated the NSL News with information of the team plans for 2006 after a very successful 2005 season for Christy Frikken (Outside Center), Josh Hall (Point), Uli Steuwe (Tail), Karen Lewis (Video) and player coaches Dan BC and Mark Kirkby, who were taking turns in the center inside position. The NSL News already had posted a Perris Fury update on August 25 after Dan BC's injury. The story included a brief overview of the team's 2005 season.

Perris Fury at the USPA Nationals
Perris Fury had positioned itself between the six top teams and the rest of the AAA Class field in the country, as the AAA Class Ranking of the 2005 season shows. The team's scoring average at the USPA Nationals was lower compared to the scores of the regular season (16.0 - 18.0 - 19.2 - 15.6) due to a slower 10-round draw and the reported personnel change.

Result was the fact that Perris Fury was only accepted as a guest team at the USPA Nationals, with British XL substitute John McIver in the center inside position. The new line-up with not much training also had to allow other US teams to get much closer than the previous scores would have indicated.

The Z-Hills team Phugoid with Ron Hill, Alan Brooks, James Klinge, Steve Johnson and Chris Williams on camera managed to finish one single point ahead of Perris Fury (15.7 - 15.6), Perris Synchronicity (15.4) and Spaceland Thunder (15.2) were much closer than expected.

Perris Fury exit
However, Perris Fury had already posted scores earlier in the season that clearly showed the seemingly unlimited potential of the original line-up. The motivation is on a very high level, and the team is ready for the next season. Christy Frikken introduced the team's project with an exciting open invitation:

"The sport of 4-Way Formation Skydiving is booming. Intermediate teams are averaging in the teens and the top six AAA/Open Class teams are posting over 20. Teams at all levels have excelled beyond what was imaginable only a few years ago. If you have a passion for 4-way and believe that with the right team and training opportunity you are capable of being a world champion than this letter is for you."

She explained the progression of the team's individuals before they joined Perris Fury and the short team history:

"In 2004, the members of Perris Fury had been on different Perris teams that averaged from 11 to 15. With Perris Valley's support and access to one of the finest training centers in the world Fury excelled at an unheard of pace. At the meets of the Southwest Skydiving League 2005 our average went from 16 in March to 18 in April to 19 in June."

Perris Fury in action
Finally, the team's center outside, who works in a management position at SkyVenture Perris, revealed the exciting plans for the 2006 season:

"In 2006 we want to take it to the next level. Christy, Josh, Uli and Lew are returning with Dan BC as the coach. We are looking for a highly motivated 4-way maniac to join us. Previous competition experience is preferred but not required. Most importantly, we want a teammate that is committed to the team, loves it as much as we do and will put 110% into every part of the training."

There have already been six AAA Class teams in the country this year with the potential of taking a top position in the international 4-way world. Perris Fury is eager to make it up to this top level and join the top level competition in the USA. Christy Frikken did not hide the excitement of the team and invited potential candidates to get in touch:

"If you can't live without 4-way and are ready to commit to a team that is going to be training and working full time at Perris Valley than we should talk more - and NOW. We are ready to get started. Contact Dan BC by October 1 if you are interested."
