Did You Know...

... that all Czech Rookie Class teams scored 10.0 average and higher last weekend?

Close at the end: Craig Girard and Eliana Rodriguez
posted Dec 9th, 2011 - The NSL News reported on 4 December 2011 that the most exciting race at the 3rd Dubai Championship 2011 took place in the middle of the field. Four teams were tied in 11th place after Round 7, and the final round was supposed to shake up this international group.

It was the slowest round of the meet, which did not promise to be such a shaker, but it surely was one, at least on this part of the leaderboard. Only two teams were still tied after Round 8, and an additional team had been drawn into this group. It was not the 11th place in contention any longer, as the 10th place was just one point away when Craig Girad's Dubai Red lineup scored low in Round 8.

Eliana Rodriguez' Dubai Gold lineup won its third round over Dubai Red and was now just one single point behind their training partners, tied with South Africa in 11th place.

Jan Klapka with his Bad Boyz
Another meet was actually taking place while the 3rd Dubai Championship 2011 was still going on, and it related indirectly to Dubai. The NSL News reported earlier that Bad Boyz member Jan Klapka, founder of the Czech Republic Skydiving League, had launched a regular windtunnel competition series for his teams throughout the winter season at the brandnew Sportflight chamber in Prague.

The Bad Boyz could not attend the indoor meet this time, as they were competing in Dubai. They were one of the four international teams who were tied in 11th place after Round 7. Jan Klapka and his Bad Boyz may have thought too much about the missed indoor meet in their homeland at their last round in Dubai, as they posted a 7-pointer and had to accept the last (14th) place of this special race in the middle of the Dubai leaderboard.

The first and last round cost the Bad Boyz the 10th place in Dubai after a great performance between Round 2 and Round 7. In fact, the Bad Boyz outscored all other teams in this 5-pack in those six rounds and would have easily taken the 10th place. However, the damage in Round 1 had put the Czech team far behind, and the recovery was over after Round 7 and right before a happy ending.

Czech top Rookies Class team Hvězdy in action
The 10.0 average is still the highest Bad Boyz result of the 2011 season after a personnel change this year. The Bad Boyz attended a total of six meets, four outdoor and two indoor events. The scoring progression of the new lineup (6.5 - 8.2 - 9.5 - 10.0) has been flawless at the outdoor meets.

Despite his absence at this indoor meet Jan Klapka was still proud of his tunnel rats in the Czech Republic. There were once again five Rookie Class teams, and each of them scored higher than 10.0 average. Three teams had been below the 10.0 average level at the last meet at the end of October.

Another indoor competition is coming up this weekend at SkyVenture New Hampshire. Organizer Ben Liston said that he has signed up 22 teams in the special 12-footer category and additonal 11 teams in the Rookie Class. The NSL is working on a plan to synchronize the growing number of tunnel meets.
