Did You Know...

... that SkyVenture Orlando provided over 27 hours of free tunnel time in 2005?

SkyVenture Orlando
posted Feb 6th, 2006 - The NSL 2005 season was also the 6th year of the NSL SkyVenture Competition at the same time. SkyVenture Orlando has been a true supporter of the National Skydiving League from the very beginning. In fact, SkyVenture Orlando opened its operation the same year when the NSL was formed and held its first championship event in 1998.

The first SkyVenture wind tunnel in Orlando began the supporting efforts by sponsoring the NSL Championship 1998 at Skydive DeLand and continued the mutually successful business relationship in 1999 and 2000. The currently known NSL SkyVenture Orlando Competition was introduced in 2001.

The awards project for the most improved teams has become more popular year by year, and the 2005 season was another record breaking year for the NSL SkyVenture Competition.

SkyVenture Orlando provided certificates for free tunnel time to a total of 49 different teams throughout the 2005 season. The winners came from all four NSL competition classes (13 AAA Class teams, 16 AA Class teams, 12 A Class teams and 8 Rookie Class teams).

Skydive Chicago Furies
The total number of certificates delivered by SkyVenture Orlando and NSL headquarters added up to a total of 27:30 hours of free tunnel time for teams that competed at NSL meets in 2005 (460 minutes for the AAA Class, 560 minutes for the AA Class, 350 minutes for the A Class, 280 minutes for the Rookie Class).

13 of the 14 active leagues in 2005 had teams from their region winning the free tunnel time in Orlando.

The Southwest Skydiving League was the overall winner with a total of 380 minutes. The Mideast Skydiving League followed with a total of 270 minutes of tunnel time.

Fastrax Select
Teams from three different competition classes and three different leagues were on top of the tunnel time leaderboard.

The all-female A Class team Skydive Chicago Furies collected most of their tunnel certificates at meets of the regular Midwest Skydiving League season, added 30 minutes at the NSL Playoffs 2005 and finished the 2005 season with a total of 90 minutes of free SkyVenture Orlando tunnel time.

Elsinore Equinox came to the same total of 90 minutes by winning only meets of the regular Southwest Skydiving League 2005 season in the AA Class. Florida Skydiving League team TeiwaZ-Hills made it to the very top of the AAA Class collectors with 90 minutes by winning a 60-minute certificate at the NSL Championship 2005.

Air Force Prodigy (AA Class - Colorado - 80 minutes), DC3 (Rookies Class - Mideast - 70 minutes), Zero Tolerance Miami (A Class - Florida - 70 minutes) and Team America (Rookie Class - Texas - 70 minutes) were additional teams that collected more than one hour of free tunnel time at SkyVenture Orlando.

Six teams finished the 2005 season with a total of 60 minutes (Sirens - A Class - MWSL, Soylent Greene - AA Class - MESL, Fastrax Select - AAA Class - MESL, Chambersburg 5 - Rookie Class - MASL, Airspeed Odyssey - AAA Class - SSL, Air Pollution - AA Class - MASL).

The NSL headquarters currently prepares the NSL SkyVenture Competition for the 2006 season. Several new SkyVenture tunnels are already in operation or will begin operation before or with the start of the 2006 season. SkyVenture Orlando will once again be a major player in the game. Additional SkyVenture tunnels across the country will hopefully join the NSL SkyVenture Competition this year. The NSL News will follow up with new information as soon as possible.
