Did You Know...

... that team Hayabusa won a 4-way tunnel competition in Paris, France?

Team Hayabusa in the Aerokart wind tunnel
posted Mar 22nd, 2004 - Aerokart, the wind tunnel in France, Paris, organized its 2nd international indoor competition on the 28th and 29th of February, 2004. The meet was intended for 3-way and 4-way team competition.

Thirteen 4-way and eleven 3-way teams attended the 8-round meet, including teams from Germany, United Kingdom, Belgium and France. Teams were allowed to use a maximum of one minute for training in the tunnel before working time started running.

This procedure was helpful since the teams did not have the possibility of using creepers to prepare the sequences. When the teams felt ready, they would form a Star. Breaking the Star was the the time when the stop watches would start ticking.

The goal was to complete a sequence of 15 formations as fast as possible. Each infringement would result in a penalty of 15% of the total time for the completion of the 15-point sequence. The dive pool consisted of all current IPC Random Formations and a selected number of Blocks (3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 14, 17, 21).

The Aerokart home team "Veloce Aerokart", consisting of Martial Ferre, Manu Ars, Thierry Boitieux and Stephane Zuninho outscored everbody in six of the eight rounds.

This team was a line-up of world class competitors and tunnel instructors. However, Veloce Aerokart did not compete for the medals to give the visiting teams a fair chance. The team members also participated as judges and organizers of the event.

Team Hayabusa, the European Skydiving League 2003 champion from Belgium, took the gold medal after the eight meet rounds. Go Fast placed second and the all-female team Les Filles placed third.

Hayabusa received 20 minutes of free tunnel time, some free laps in the go-kart part of the attraction and a free night in the hotel across the street.

The Hayabusa members enjoyed the unique event: "The meet was extraordinarily well organized and the atmosphere amongst the competitors was really very nice. Aerokart provided lunches and dinners during the two day event, as well as a karting competition on the first night, and there were lots of goodies for everybody. The annual tunnel competition will be on our schedule again next year."
