Did You Know...

... that DeLand Majik members celebrated with Excalibur for the last time?

NSL News at the World Meet 2006
posted Aug 2nd, 2006 - The NSL News service will change its character for a little while. The NSL News stories usually cover one topic completely and comprehensively before the next story comes with a new topic or relates to a previous one. This concept will continue throughout the duration of the World Meet 2006 and the Malevsky Cup 2006, while a new format will be added.

These two events will provide content for many stories, which can either be longer or shorter ones. Separate topics will still be covered on separate pages if they are long enough. Shorter stories or paragraphs will be posted on the same page and relate to each other or not.

Today's training activities in Gera
The NSL News will update these news pages of the events on a regular basis. New content will be added at the bottom of the last news page whenever the event action requires an update. The next news page will be posted as soon as the previous one is heavily loaded.

It is the NSL News goal to start each event day with a new page and add updates throughout the morning action at the event sites. The second half of the day will be covered with the next news page. It will help to refresh these pages once in a while to load the new updates from here on.

The training activities in Germany are currently on a very low level since the weather has not allowed much jumping so far. The event site is in great shape, and the management continues with preparations. Official team registration begins on Thursday, while new teams arrive every day.

Majik Excalibur

Reigning 4-way world champion, DeLand Majik member Solly Williams, arrived in Gera yesterday. He will be working with several teams as a coach during the World Meet 2006. His primary clients are the DaneZ and the German team EADS. He will also help the Australian 4-way team Airtite.

The former DeLand Majik member has traveled around the world throughout the spring and summer season, and the trips included preparations for his wedding celebration in September. He recently spend a week at his home of the past years in DeLand, and his local friends used the opportunity for a party to bid farewell to a former bachelor.

His former Majik piece partner, Doug Park, new member of Team Fastrax, was also in DeLand last week and joined the party. The DeLand Majik members do not have much time left to enjoy the title of the reigning 4-way world champions. Only DeLand Fire member Gary Smith has the chance to defend his title next week.

The trophy of the 4-way Open Class, the Excalibur sword, was still in possession of the DeLand Majik members and had to be transported to Germany. Doug Park decided to include the sword in the celebration last Saturday. It would be the last time that DeLand Majik's former rear piece would be able to enjoy the trophy. So they did, and the details of the party in DeLand were not provided.

Stay tuned, this page will be updated later.

Press conference at the World Meet 2006

World Meet Everywhere

The event management in Germany is not only bringing the World Meet 2006 to the attention of the skydiving community. The NSL News has been working together with the organizing committee for quite a while to cover this part well enough. The general public in Germany is also integrated in the efforts to reach out to the rest of the population.

Mathias Maushake began with his Public Relations campaign months ago. The biggest German TV stations have planned to cover the event and already visited to prepare their shows. Representatives of local and regional print media were also on competition site today for a news conference.

Local politicians visited to honor the event and also to participate in the media event. Even a skydiving member of the German parliament "Bundestag", former gymnastics world champion Eberhard Gienger, helped to direct additional attention to the event. He jumped as the tandem pilot with one of the local politicians who made his first skydive.

The visiting teams and competitors can find posters and invitations to the event all over the city of Gera. Shops and restaurants show off the World Meet, and people in town are already quite aware of the event happening in their home town next week.

New teams have arrived, and the NSL News added pictures to the team pages. The 4-way Open Class team from Japan, the Australian national team in the female category and Austria's Team FILA with alternate member Eva-Maria Brand have up-to-date presence now. Sinapsi PD made a few training jumps, and Airkix began the warm-up training with coach Dan BC. The NSL News has an interview with Dan BC on the agenda.
