Did You Know...

... that Fast + Furious competed at SkyQuest 2003 and 2006?

posted Dec 6th, 2006 - The first meet videos of the NSL Championship at SkyQuest 2006 have been uploaded and are now available. The footage includes the jumps of Fast + Furious, Optic Nerve, Teiwaz Lake Wales and Air Force CAD, and the first round of the competition can now be viewed on NSL-TV.

The 4-way competition at SkyQuest 2006 was the smallest one in the history of the event. The NSL Championship has always been a combination of a fun and publicity oriented demonstration of 4-way competition. However, the transition from Fantasy of Flight to Skydive DeLand after a busy season for the 4-way teams reduced the number of participating 4-way teams to three in both the AAA and the AA Class.

The teams still enjoyed the casual competition atmosphere, and the AAA Class competition featured the traditional annual confrontation between Teiwaz and Optic Nerve once again this year. The Italian guest team Fast + Furious had included the NSL Championship in the planning for a winter training camp in DeLand.

Fast + Furious competed at the NSL Championship 2006 with Massimiliano Cantini (Center Outside), Marco Mancini (Tail), Sara Mercati (Center Inside), Antonio Rubeca (Point) and Adriano Andreola (Camera) in the line-up. Pete Allum was coaching the team throughout the training camp and the competition.

The Italian team already attended the NSL Championship 2003 at Fantasy of Flight. Fast + Furious of 2003 completed the 10-round meet with a 6.8 average. Two team members of the 2003 season, Massimiliano Cantini and Marco Mancini, are still competing with F+F.

The performance and scoring level has changed though. Fast and Furious of 2006 completed the 10-round competition at SkyQuest with an 11.8 average, and the team's meet videos show the potential of significantly higher scores soon to come. Exit problems made it difficult for the Italians to keep up with Optic Nerve and Teiwaz.

Fast + Furious had already posted a 14.3 average after ten rounds at the Italian Nationals 2006. The home advantage of a right-hand door in Italy made it easier to post better scores. However, Fast + Furious at SkyQuest 2006 also had a new team member. Sara Mercati had just joined the team to fill the Center Inside position, and it was the first training camp for the new line-up.
