... that Perris Fury's Round 1 of the Valentine's Meet in now on NSL-TV?
posted Feb 27th, 2007 - Perris Fury has made the NSL News several times in the last six months. The full attention by the NSL News began with the team's great performance at the USPA Nationals 2006. Fury, with Chris Farina (Inside Center), Christy Frikken (Outside Center), Josh Hall (Point) and Uli Steuwe (Tail), made plans for the 2007 season and updated the NSL News as soon as the plans were in place.
The Perris team was highly motivated at the end of the 2006 season and did not make its plans for 2007 on a small agenda. The Perris Fury members all went full-time in their skydiving careers and set the goals on medal level already for the USPA Nationals 2007.
The 2007 medals are a huge challenge for any underdog. Three 4-way powerhouses are expected to dominate the 4-way competition this year: Airspeed Odyssey, Team Fastrax and the Golden Knights. Perris Fury experienced the first 2007 face-off with one of the three favorites already at the Valentine's Meet 2007.
Airspeed Odyssey did not scare Perris Fury at the USPA Nationals 2006 that much. In fact, the results in Eloy last year were even motivating for the underdog. Fury beat the Airspeed veterans in two rounds and tied their scores in three additional rounds.
Airspeed Odyssey had not trained much 4-way in 2006 and was at the end of this line-up's commitment with Brian Johnson in the tail slot. The Valentine's Meet 2007 provided a very realistic look for Perris Fury at the current situation and a new opportunity for an evaluation.
Fact is that the Perris team has passed the 20.0 benchmark with the 20.3 average at the first meet in 2007. The progression obviously continues in Perris, and the results will be encouraging for Fury. The scores of the Valentine's Meet also show that Fury beat Odyssey once again in two of the ten rounds in Eloy.
However, the distance between the two teams has grown by now. The new Odyssey line-up with Mark Kirkby in the tail slot won the other eight rounds over Fury and increased the difference of the meet average from 0.7 (20.6 - 19.9) in October 2006 to 1.9 (22.2 - 20.3) in February 2007.
The current numbers are more realistic than the ones of the USPA Nationals 2006 where Airspeed Odyssey did not perform up to the team's standards throughout the first seven rounds on the first day of the competition. The scores and experiences at the Valentine's Meet will give Perris Fury the information the team needed at the beginning of the 2007 season.
Perris Fury kindly provided the NSL News already with the videos of the team's meet jumps at the Valentine's Meet, while the complete footage is still on the way from the west to the east coast. Round 1 can now be viewed and shows one of the two rounds where Perris Fury outscored Airspeed Odyssey (25 - 24). France won the round with 27 points.
