Did You Know...

... that A Class teams battled in Great Britain last weekend?

posted May 10th, 2007 - The Grand Prix competition series in Great Britain launched its first competition of the 2007 season last weekend. The 4-way meet was actually the third event that took place on May 5 - 6, together with the New England Skydiving League (NESL) and the Belgian Skydiving Trophy (BST).

Unfortunately, the competition draw was only synchronized between the teams in New England and Belgium due to a communication error with the Grand Prix management. The UK teams had their own competition draw this time, and they will be back within the network at the next meet on June 2.

Sonic 5 won the A Class competition in Great Britain easily with two highscores in rounds three (13) and four (16). However, an exciting battle for the silver medal position took place in the same competition class between two teams that came back from the 2006 season.

Qi competed in the A Class throughout the 2006 season and attended five 4-way competitions (8.3 - 7.8 - 8.2 - 8.1 - 8.0) on a very consistent performance level. Qi came back in the same competition class last weekend and finished with a 10.0 meet average after four rounds.

Phobia line-up of 2006
Phobia competed in the Grand Prix's Rookie Class in 2006 and attended even one more meet for a total of six 4-way competitions between June and September, including the ESL Championship 2006. Phobia posted 2-digit averages meet by meet (10.3 - 10.2 - 13.3 - 13.8 - 11.7 - 10.0) last year.

It was obviously time for Phobia to move up into the next higher competition class, and that's what the team did at the first 2007 competition. Phobia almost opened the new season with a 2-digit average, as well (9.8), and went neck to neck with the A Class defender, Qi.

One single point separated these two A Class teams after the four rounds last weekend, Qi in 2nd and Phobia in 3rd place. Both teams were keeping up with the winner of this meet, Sonic 5, in the first two rounds. There is a good chance that the A Class competition in Great Britain will become as exciting as it was last year.
