Did You Know...

... that 4-way participation is growing in Denmark?

NSL News interview with Torben Tidemand and Vibeke Birk in April
posted May 23rd, 2007 - The NSL News story on April 3 provided an update from Denmark. It also included a live interview with two members of the Danish 4-way project, Torben Tidemand and Vibeke Birk.

Torben Tidemand trains and competes with the new Danish national 4-way team, Danish Blaze. Vibeke Birk is a member of the Danish B-Team, Sequence. Both provided information and feedback for the NSL News after their training camps in DeLand. Last weekend, their teams competed at the first meet of the 2007 season in Denmark.

Danish Blaze already attended the FSL Shamrock Showdown 2007 in March and finished the 10-round meet with a 13.9 average. The meet videos can still be reviewed at the NSL-TV page of the Shamrock Showdown.

Danish Blaze
The DFU Open in Denmark was the second 2007 competition for Torben Tidemand and his team, which includes Renee Andreasen in the line-up. Renee Andreasen is a former member of the previous Danish national 4-way team, the DaneZ.

The DaneZ discontinued with serious training efforts after the World Meet 2006 in Germany where they finished in 8th position with an 18.0 average after five rounds. Renee Andreasen later decided to move on with the new 4-way team, Danish Blaze, while the DaneZ still hibernated.

Last weekend's competition had an interesting aspect since the DaneZ came back for a reunion at the DFU Open. Peter Andersen, last year's Vitesse member, is now flying in Renee Andreasen's slot. However, he was not available last weekend, and Thomas See, another former project member with team Elements, filled the slot at the DFU Open.

Danish Blaze member Torben Tidemand and new DaneZ member Peter Andersen were both team members of Vitesse last year. Very soon, the former team mates will face each other directly with their new line-ups.

DaneZ at the World Meet 2006
The new DaneZ line-up might have scared Danish Blaze at the meet opener last weekend. However, the old national team with the substitute did not offer too much opposition for the new national team after that. Danish Blaze improved the meet average from 13.9 in March to 14.6 last weekend and walked away with the first place. The DaneZ finished the reunion with a 12.8 average.

The DaneZ have no series ambitions at the moment and just train at Bodyflight Bedford's wind tunnel. They still have a lot of fun with the new line-up and plan to compete at the meets in Denmark. The new line-up with Peter Andersen in the Point position will probably challenge Danish Blaze more than it looked last weekend.

Vibeke Birk competed with her B-Team of the project, Sequence, as well, and finished in 3rd place with an 11.3 average. Sequence even managed to beat the former champions of the DaneZ in three rounds and tied another one. The C-Team of the Danish 4-way project, Contra, was next in the Danish rankings and finished with a 9.6 average in the 10-round meet.

Two other teams competed in the AAA Class in Denmark for a total of six teams in this competition class. Additional seven teams attended the DFU Open in the A Class competition. The participation at the DFU Open in Denmark went up from 9 teams in 2006 to 13 teams last weekend.
