Did You Know...

... that last weekend's first NSL-TV video features the AA Class winner Wingnutz?

posted Jun 6th, 2007 - The coverage of last weekend's event in Great Britain is far from complete at this point. The second meet of UK's Grand Prix event series in 2007 had the best attendance of all nine competitions, at least in the synchronized competition classes, and it deserves special attention.

The highest attendance was actually recorded in France where a total of 39 4-way teams and five 8-way teams competed at the first meet of the Coupe de France 2007. The 12 French teams on last weekend's leaderboard only represent the AAA Class participation in France. Additional 27 4-way teams competed in a different competition class, which is not synchronized with the NSL Network's dive pool. The field of French AAA Class teams does not include the national 4-way and 8-way teams. The NSL News will follow up soon with more information from France.

Team pictures, additional information and videos have been added to the UK coverage in the meantime. The first video from Great Britain features the winner of the AA Class competition with a 13.8 meet average, Wingnutz. It was not the most perfect start into the competition, as the video of the jump will show. Wingnutz funneled the exit from the Skyvan and needed quite some time to build the first formation of the sequence (F-C-Q-M). The British team recovered very well and still completed 23 scoring points within working time.

ESL A Class Champions of 2006
Wingnutz has a similar opportunity to make history in Great Britain as Ranch Pulse has in the USA. Yesterday's NSL News story explained that the Ranch Skydiving League team Pulse has the unique opportunity to win two sets of USPA gold medals in two different competition classes in consecutive years.

The British winner of last year's A Class championship in the United Kingdom, European Skydiving League A Class Champion of 2006 at the same time, moved up into the AA Class competition this year and is already far ahead of the other UK teams after the first two Grand Prix meets of the 2007 season. Wingnutz outscored all other AA Class teams from Arizona, California and Canada, as well.

Rookie Class champion of 2006: Phobia
The British winner of last year's Rookie Class, Phobia, is copying Ranch Pulse's and Wingnutz' efforts by stepping up into the A Class competition in 2007 and already taking the top position in the higher competition class. The NSL News will follow the progression of these top challengers throughout the 2007 season.

The current leaderboard of last weekend's events is also not showing the full strength of all the British teams in the A Class competition. The jump-off rounds seven and eight between Monkey Magic, Qi and Seraphim had slower sequences and lowered the 6-round meet averages of all three teams.

Monkey Magic, Qi and Seraphim were tied with 60 points and 10.0 averages after the six official rounds of the Grand Prix event in Langar. The 10.0 average would have placed all three teams tied in 3rd place, behind Phobia and Slightly Odd. It would have been a 5-team A Class sweep by the British teams.

The Swedish A Class team Airgangbang was actually one point behind the three British teams after six rounds and is still ranked in 3rd place only since the scores of the jump-off rounds were added to the leaderboard. The NSL News will follow up with another original meet story from Langar very soon. Stay tuned and provide your feedback in the NSL Forum in the meantime.
