Did You Know...

... that the Lemay family won the AAA Class competition with a new record average?

posted Jun 7th, 2007 - The next video files of last weekend's competition have been uploaded. It is greatly recommended to watch the jumps since the top team of the AAA Class leaderboard, CanAm team Evolution, can be viewed doing its first competition jump of the 2007 season with the complete Lemay family line-up.

The NSL News has covered the unique Canadian family affair several times in the past. The last story on May 30 provided the last Evolution update and introduced the other CanAm 2007 teams with a preview of the season opener.

The video of last weekend's Round 1 at Nouvel Air shows the whole Lemay family (Martin Lemay - Inside Center, Michel Lemay - Outside Center, Vincent Lemay - Point, Benoit Lemay - Tail) in competition action for the very first time.

16-year old Benoit Lemay does not hold back the rest of the family in his Tail slot, as the scores and the video shows. In fact, Evolution's 18.5 average after six rounds is already a new team record. The Canadian team had finished last year's World Meet in Germany with a 16.8 average after five rounds. It will surely be very interesting to follow the progression of the Lemay family on its road to the World Meet 2008 in France.

Last weekend's CanAm competition on Evolution's home turf at Nouvel Air was challenging for the team members, as CanAm Director Donald Poulin reported: "This 18.5 average is very good because the guys did the meet while they where all very busy with running the DZ operation. Ben was packing. Michel, Vincent and Martin were doing AFF, tandem and coaching. They did not have a lot of time to focus on the dives."

The 18.5 average was still the highest scoring last weekend. Arizona Directe, with former Airspeed world champions Gary Beyer and John Eagle, substituted by Dan BC after Round 2, ended up three points behind Evolution. UK's team Storm finished another point behind in 3rd place of the AAA Class leaderboard with 36 teams.

Donald Poulin was generally more than satisfied with the first CanAm competition at Nouvel Air: "It was a nice weekend at Nouvel Air. Most of the teams had aimed to go for 10 rounds. However, people got tired on Sunday. They realised that competing takes a lot of energy and concentration, so only one team completed all ten rounds. It was also a slow pace due to the clouds, and many gave up on the weather on Sunday."

Despite a not very promising weather forecast for the weekend the expected teams showed up on time Saturday morning. Eight additional local skydivers formed two pick-up teams, B.O.B. and Euh! Je sais pas. The CanAm Director described the great atmosphere at the first meet this year with one word: cooperation:

"The more experienced skydivers were helping with engineering at the creeper pad and gave advice for the exits. One of our videographers filmed three teams, Daniel Paquette filmed Black+White between tandem jumps."

He saw the highlight of the weekend on Saturday: "We had pizza at the social club, and up to 40 participants got together to eat, socialise and watch the meet videos of the day - that was super."

Donald Poulin has the next CanAm meet on June 30 already in his mind: "I plan to do things a little bit differently. We will aim for six rounds on Saturday and do some big-ways and fun jumps on Sunday."
